“Calm in the heart of the storm”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

We spent six nights here last week and were really impressed. Super friendly and helpful staff and a beautiful, clean, compact hotel. The location is great, right in the heart of Hanoi's bussling old quarter, and the hotel provided the perfect retreat when it all got too much.

We booked a 3 night package deal through the hotel's website covering a night in Hanoi, a Galaxy Premium cruise in Ha Long Bay, and another night in Hanoi; airport pickup and drop-off included. We couldn't have picked a better choice! The hotel is located on a busy street, in the middle of Old Quarter, surrounded by plenty of shopping and restaurants. Beer Junction/Corner is around the corner; Water Puppet theater is a short walk, and Temple of Literature is less than 60 VND away by taxi. Rooms were very comfortable, and very well furnished. The breakfast buffet is excellent. The Galaxy Premium Cruise was exceptional as well. We had a fantastic time, thanks to the wonderful staff lead by Brian and our contact, Annie. I found the staff to be very helpful and very honest. This was by far our best stay through our Southeast Asia trip covering 3 countries. Loved every aspect of this trip, and hope to make it back soon!

Room Tip: Don't be put off by the busy streets...the hotel is in a great location, and it was very quite i...

My husband and I and three children (aged 11, 10 and 8) had a fabulous 4 night stay at the Oriental Central Hotel. The location is excellent - right in the Old Town a short walk from the lake. The staff are constantly smiling. They treated us all like beloved members of their own families. Lana and Jenny even arm wrestled with the kids in the lobby to keep them occupied whilst they were waiting for us. Every time we mentioned what we planned to do, the staff insisted on making restaurant bookings for us, booking cabs or simply drawing on maps to show us the way and make things as easy as possible. They had great recommendations for places to eat, what to see and where to get a massage.
The rooms were large and spotless. We stayed in a family room and deluxe double which were next door to each other on the 8th floor. From the family room there was a nice view over roof tops, with a glimpse of the lake (no view from the other room). The breakfast was excellent.
The children have insisted on writing their own reviews:-
India - The best part was coming down for breakfast and having a chat with Jenny and Lana.
Sophie - It was one of the best parts of Vietnam and everyone there is so lovely.
Angus - This hotel was my favourite thing in Vietnam (it was difficult to get him out of the room...)
We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to everyone. It well deserves its outstanding rating.

Room Tip: We had a lovely family room on the 8th floor (top floor) with a deluxe double next door.

Right in the heart of the old quarter, convenient, affordable and brilliant first class customer service. Breakfast was awesome with a great selection of fresh fruit, pastries and hot food. Check in and check out was efficient, the staff are engaging, polite, friendly and obviously passionate about their jobs at the hotel. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. The only negative was the noise late at night and early morning. If you have a room next to the stairwell be prepared for disturbed sleep. Keeping the window closed helps but does not eliminate all the noise. However, all the other positives about this hotel make it a perfect place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher level and not next to the stairwell. Having said this however, we did as...

We stayed in the Oriental Central with three couples. The rooms were clean and spacious and the hotel has a yummy breakfast, as well as great location. But the reviews are right that it's the staff and the service that really make this the number one choice for Hanoi. There's nothing these lovely people won't do for you - in our case, opening the restaurant up late at night so that we could have a cup of tea with our late arrivals, we were really impressed. Thank you Lana, Aimee and the team, you made us feel so welcome and like we were staying with friends.

What a fantastic stay. The staff make this place - their welcoming, friendly, helpful demeanour was second to none.
The hotel itself is gorgeous, boutique style and some lovely touches such as the welcome fruits, we received a complimentary upgrade & in the evening someone came by with a little plate of chocolate wishing us a good sleep. So cute. The staff were happy to make recommendations and help us with all our bookings, printing etc. They took me to the local phone shop late one evening ( i had lost my phone and needed a new one and a sim in a hurry) and were ever so helpful - it is very easy to pay something huge if you go alone, but they came in with me and helped me out and i got a replacement phone and SIM for a very reasonable price. Gorgeous staff, very helpful. Rooms were beautifully decorated and very clean. Comfy bed. Breakfast is lovely. I would recommend this to anyone coming to Hanoi! Wonderfully located near Hoan Kiem Lake, and in the old quarter. I had a lovely stay.

Room Tip: The top floor in the corner! Great room!

I stayed here as a solo female traveller for four nights. The service, location and ambiance cannot be beat. The rooms are beautiful with fresh fruit, rose petals in the bed and chocolates on your bed every night. The endless breakfast very morning is amazing with fresh fruits, juices, pastries, eggs, bacon, pancakes and much more. It is both buffet and a la carte and you can eat as much as you can pack into your stomach. A friend if mine was staying in Hanoi at same time and she dropped by and was incredibly envious as she was paying more to stay at a hotel which did not offer such personable service. The water pressure in the shower is better than mine in Vancouver. The staff is helpful and kind and are like friends. You can walk to everything from this hotel and no need for taxis at all. The only place to stay in Hanoi
