“Authentic Vietnamese performance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

We visited a performance last night as a result of the reviews on TA and was not disappointed. We bought tickets during the day for the evening, but you could buy them on the night. Set in a lovely old Hanoi long house, some background was given first about the traditional Ca Tru and how it was almost lost during the height of the communist years. The performances where quite haunting and moving and it was good to see the old traditions continuing. It is set outside, although under cover so warm clothing needed in this weather.

“A lovely cultural experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2014

One part musical performance, one part intriguing architecture. The building itself is one of the last remaining Hanoi-style long houses (preserved from pre French colonization) and it serves as a beautiful setting for the music. The music is gentle, mesmerizing and a lovely break from the hectic Hanoi streets. Much better than the water puppet show nearby.

“Something different”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2014

Interesting concert with very good musicians that truly knows their art. Performed in a nice temple setting, with an intimate stage and a small audience. We appreciated the host, who told us the story about Ca Tru music and answered questions from the audience. We were also allowed to try the instruments.
