“Very disappointing hotel”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

We stayed at this hotel at the start of a tour of Vietnam. The foyer is nice, staff very nice, but the hotel is awful. We had room 306. It was very smelly , paint peeling off in places, just not nice. Our guide asked us how the room was, we said awful. He went in and told the hotel, they said we could move rooms. After our first short walking tour, the receptionist took us to a room on the 6th floor. That was no better. We decided that as we were only there for 2 nights we would just put up with it. The towels and sheets were ok, and the usual toiletries in the bathroom. First morning we wander off down the road to the dining room, is about 50 metres away, when you get to the dining room you have to walk up about 20 steps to get to the dining room. The breakfast was dreadful. The hot noodles, spring rolls etc that should have been hot, were just slightly warm. I didn't eat that. Had an omelette which was made fresh, that was much better. The orange juice wasn't orange juice, it tasted like watered down cordial. There was a wee bit of fruit and a couple of choices of small cakes. No tea except for green tea. Husband had coffee which he said was ok. Next morning breakfast much the same. Location is quite good though. The hotel was included in the price of our tour, so I don't know how much a night it would be. In the hotel book in the room, they say there is a beauty spa, when I went to make an appointment, I was told they don't have one. I wouldn't stay there again.

The room is comfortable with clean toilet and toiletries.Mini fridge, safe box, bedroom slippers, plates and cups are also available. Price is affordable and there is a supermarket within walking distance. It is easy to get around as it is not that far from the Old Quarters. The staff is also friendly and helpful.

We stayed here twice with a tour of Vietnam. on the first occasion, our first room (315) smelt really odd as soon as we entered. The metal struts holding up the bathroom tiles were rusty and there were quite a few cobwebs around. It felt quite grubby. We got our room changed to 615 and that was much better. The area around the hotel is very down at heel. The lifts were shabby and slow.
On the plus side, the hotel,is well placed for the Water puppet theatre and the old and French quart end the Lake of the Returnedi Sword. Our room had tea and coffee making facilities, beds were fine and plenty of hot water ( actually extremely hot, so be careful when you turn the tap on!)in the bathroom. The wifi worked fine although it was slow to connect initially.
The restaurant for breakfast was situated down the street, an odd arrangement and the breakfast had very limited choice even for our taste (we tend to just have fruit and yoghurt, bread or toast and jam) although that is not unusual in Vietnam as a whole. The so called toaster took about 5 minutes to produce dried out bread without a hint of toast. Staff were struggling to keep supplies restocked for the number of people at breakfast, especially as there was very limited work space and food storage facilities. More importantly when we pointed out the many ants running round and over the spoons, bread and jam, the response was to flick them way with a cloth. They promptly re-appeared. There was no sign of them on our second visit.
On our return visit our room, 601, was large and clean. We had dinner in the restaurant but this was nothing special and the only wine on offer was Dalat and they did not have enough wine for our group and we were not a group of heavy drinkers... Shame as this was our "farewell" dinner - and there was a wine shop, next door! Overnight we could have done with earplugs though as there is some kind of machinery, we think a water pump, on the roof directly above which emits the most horrible grinding noise for about 5 minutes every few hours so sleep was interrupted in the middle of the night and again at 6am after which we failed to get back to sleep as by then the traffic was getting busy so we were serenaded through the inadequately soundproofed windows by the usual car horns etc. I would not recommend this hotel but it may be the best option depending on your budget and where you want to stay within the city

Excellent location, only a 5 minutes walk away from the lake and the old center. My room was in the front but the noise didn't bother me. Very smalll balcony with no chairs or table. Had to pull the chair from the room to be able to sit there. Free wifi, worked well even on the balcony. The room and bathroom overall were okay. TV in the room doesn't work well, no use turning it on. Restaurant is in the lobby, really nothing special. Breakfast is very moderate. My friend was early for breakfast and poured some cofee but it as still cold and was obviously from yesterday and they were heating it up on a heating plate. He left his cup with cold coffee on the buffet and actually saw a staff member pouring it back in the coffee pot! Staff doesn't speak good english. But all in all I would stay again.

Stayed 2 nights at beginning of our Vietnam tour and then one more night/full day on our last night. Rooms on the 6th floor were spacious and updated. AC was nice, wi-fi worked great and the breakfast selection was very good. It's easy walking distance to Old Quarter, Lake and other attractions. Beds are kind of hard but so were all the mattresses during our stay in Vietnam.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 6th floor

We stayed in this hotel with our family of 4 (2 teenagers) for 2 nights, as part of a tour. This is a no-thrills, 3 star hotel: what you see is what you get.

Rooms are adequate, with hard beds & pillows and oldfashioned room styling. Aircon is good, though public spaces have no aircon (?), except for the breakfast room and reception area. View is on a busy street, but trafffic noise in the evening and at night is bearable. This is not an oasis, but just a place for a short stay.

The hotel is on walking distance from the Ho Guom city lake, and also from the opera building, some parks where people have many leisure activities in the evening and from the old city.

Breakfast is mostly Asian style and very limited in choice for Westerners. Tidyness in the breakfast room is so-so.

If I would have had to book myself, I would not have picked this place for lack of comfort, but for our sightseeing tour in Vietnam for our family, it was adequate.

Room Tip: Take a higher floor, because of traffic noise.

The location of the hotel is very well in order to visit Hanoi. The rooms are quite old, the bathrooms very small. We stayed here twice and the bathroom was better in the first room, so there seem to be different standards of renovation. The rooms are very badly isolated and you can hear all the street noise which makes sleep quite difficult. The breakfast selection was very poor, as well as the quality (e.g. juices were mixed with water and tasted only like water).
