“Must see Vietnam's traditional culture”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Water puppet has been Vietnamese traditional culture which dates back as far as the 11th century. So it's best to go and watch it. This is a live performing art where puppeteers hide behind a screen and move the wooden puppets using bamboo stick. The puppeteers usually perform in a waist-deep pool. Live music is also played together during these performances.

We manage to catch the 3pm show which lasted for 45 minutes. The entrance ticket cost us USD10 for 2. There are 2 type of tickets. The expensive one which you get to sit near the front and the less expensive which sit at the back. I would recommend to go early and purchase your tickets early because this is a very popular show. Tickets sells out very very fast!! Faster than hot cakes.

We weren't quite sure whether to go to this or not, however we were very pleased that we did.
We caught the 5 o'clock show, it lasts foe one hour & costs a little over £3 each to get in.
It's a proper theatre with a very large water pool as the stage setting, from which the puppets emerge to do various dances & enact stories, from Vietnamese history, on top of the water. There is a live orchestra, playing traditional music on traditional instruments, which is absolutelty lovely & the ladies that sing are wonderful, quite enchanting to watch them play & at the same time haunting to listen to.
We couldn't help but think that if The Beatles had heard the sounds, then they would have been influenced by them, just as they were by the sitar & other ethnic music!
Well worth a visit for those that are sceptcical, as we were!

I would recommend visitor to see this show as it was very unique and interesting. The content was good and funny. Music was good as well. It would help us to know about Viet Nam's culture, Viet Nam contryside life (agricultural civilization)
