Go if you have a few days to spend in Hanoi, but if you have less time there are more important attractions that should take president.
Go on a sunny day. We took a taxi to the botanical gardens next to the lake. 60,000vnd. Gardens 2000vnd. Worth an hour or so visit away from the traffic. Then walked along the lake side anti-clockwise to the intercontinental hotel. Enjoyed the sunset at their beautiful 5star sunset bar. Pricey (beer 70000), but between 5and7pm its happy hour= buy one and get one free. Take bug repellent.
Nice relaxing day out.

“worth to see”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

Nice views - but the nice and not so nice is always close in Hanoi. Have a stroll at the temple and watch the crazy traffic - that's probably one of the most hilarious past time activity in Hanoi. One can hardly believe what can be transported with a Vespa!

“Life is so quiet here”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

We are recommended by the hotel staff to take the taxi to the West lake. It's far about 8km to here. We spent 3 hours for walking around the lake. We spent 85usd for the small boat took us around the lake over than 45minute. It's so wonderful to view the sun set here. It's great to have some coffee.

“West Lake”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2013

In sunshine the Westlake is a magnificant place that I enjoyed a lot of times. Going out with one of the Swanboats is a nice and peaceful experience, a walk on the lakeside as well. The yellow temple is lovely and worth a visit. In Yen Phu there's a lovely cafe in number 76, a well hidden nice place visited by a lot of locals.
