We walked up to the sofitel and took a drink in their roof top bar to watch the sunset over the lake- drinks were english prices for cocktails but worth it for the view, we also enjoyed some nice tapas there. Nice temple on the way but a sign says no shorts so we didnt go in so if you are planning that maybe bring a sarong. The walk up along the lake is very nice and you can buy a coconut to drink from. More calming than kiem lake.

Crappy lake and mediocre views. Supposedly this a fancy area but it looks very poor.
The lake has tons of garbage. Nothing spectacular about it.

Note: West lake is next to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Some pics and reviews are related with the lake on the Old Quarter.

As a regular walker, I enjoyed walking around the West Lake, the paths around it were in good shape allowing me to tackle my semi fast routine without a hassle. I enjoyed the magnificent views and the sights which were unexpected.

This broad lake, about a 15 minute walk from the Old Quarter, could be an amazing attraction in this busy, bustling city, but unfortunatley it seems to be just a drainage outlet for the surrounding streets and not sufficiently valued at this point of time. It has a wonderful range of buildings and city-life experiences on display around its 14km+ shore line and could be major attraction for those moving out of the Old Quarter to the Mausoleum, Military History Museum etc. We had hoped to hire bicycles at the lake and ride around it but could not find anywhere to do this. Given the attention that is being paid to tourism in this amazing part of the world, I hope that in a few years this will be a major attraction for local and international visitors.

Less hectic than the Old Quarter- a elecrtic bus ride around the lake gave nice vies and a breather from walking in the heat and traffic.
