“beautiful lake hard to walk around”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2012

West Lake is much bigger than Hoan Kiem Lake in the old town. Most of international hotels located close to the lake. There are couple of temples around close to the lake as well. Very different with Hoan Kiem you can easily walk around. We walked from old town to west lake, it was pleasant half an hour walk.

“Nothing to do”

Unless you want to ride a duck boat out onto the lake, there is nothing great about this lake.

“waterside R&R”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2012

Westlake is a massive basin (with a smaller lake, Truc Bac Lake, attached) which provides amenities and (gods help us!) food for those living around it....fishing, boating, pedalloes, even (and it's NOT recommended!) swimming...with a road that runs pretty much all the way around the lake, it is a place were locals and expats go to chill-out, ESPECIALLY on a hot summer afternoon, at one of the countless coffee-shops and minibars which are dotted all around.....jump on your bike, head up to a corner with a nice breeze, slip on the shades and sit on one of the 1950's deck-chairs which the locals provide while you sip on your beer........easy to forget that just minutes away the traffic and the bedlam of the city is still in full flight!

“Not worth visiting unless you need to get away from hustle and bustle of Hanoi”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2012

We were in Hanoi when it was cold and during winter so it may be a completely different place during the summer. We took the train ride right around the lake and enjoyed that as something different to do.
