This new-ish museum, which is a 15 to 20 minute cab ride from central Hanoi, is worth visiting. Covering the 50 plus ethnic groups in Vietnam, the museum is thorough, but not overwhelming. The curators have done a wonderful job of selecting items and displaying them attractively. The textiles and basketry are stunning. And, besides the interior display, there is the garden with wonderful ethnic housing! Stunning architecture and a great insight into how these diverse communities lived. Plus a water puppet theater with a show included in the admission price! The on-site restaurant is very good and helps train disadvantaged youth. And the museum shop is managed by Craft Link - a non-profit organization that helps small Vietnamese craft producers. Their items are great souvenirs and gifts and more attractive than what is available in most tourist shops. Enjoy!
