“Wow! Wonderful! Go and enjoy!”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

This new-ish museum, which is a 15 to 20 minute cab ride from central Hanoi, is worth visiting. Covering the 50 plus ethnic groups in Vietnam, the museum is thorough, but not overwhelming. The curators have done a wonderful job of selecting items and displaying them attractively. The textiles and basketry are stunning. And, besides the interior display, there is the garden with wonderful ethnic housing! Stunning architecture and a great insight into how these diverse communities lived. Plus a water puppet theater with a show included in the admission price! The on-site restaurant is very good and helps train disadvantaged youth. And the museum shop is managed by Craft Link - a non-profit organization that helps small Vietnamese craft producers. Their items are great souvenirs and gifts and more attractive than what is available in most tourist shops. Enjoy!

“Ok for children”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

My children are young and they weren't very interested in the static museum displays. But the outdoor area where they put up replicas of tribal houses was a draw for them as they could climb in and out of the houses.
This museum is fairly interesting for adults too.

“Pretty interesting”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

I'm not a big museum fan, but quite enjoyed this one. There are heaps of displays (inside) on the different tribes/ethnic minorities in Vietnam and their traditions. With my short attention span, I made it around but was ready to go outside! Outside they have examples of the various types of houses - full scale and most of them were actual houses that have ended up at the museum! You can go inside or just look outside - and as long as you paid some attention inside the museum, you'll know what everything is for :) If you are interested in people, you'll enjoy this!

“Ethnology museum”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

Good overview of the different ethnic populations inside and outside where there was also a folkloric performance.
As we have seen so many quite similar museums we were not very impressed also because there were a lot of famiies with many LOUD children ( Viet Newyear vacation )

“It was a really interesting community spot.”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

The Museum was nice, but there were outdoor events the day I went that made it even better. There are things to see on the grounds as well as their own restaurant that has good tasting local dishes at a good price. You can relax and eat indoors or out. It was a nice rest between the museum and the grounds.
