While not fancy by modern museum standards, this museum does an excellent job of depicting the various tribes and cultures of Vietnam which are far more diverse than I previously knew. a very enjoyable learning experience. Be prepared for a lot of reading but kids may be interested in the various cultural diplays.

“Interactive and engaging”

This was a great background of all the ethnic groups in Vietnam. I really enjoyed the outdoor activities - the museum had volunteers running the different activities and educating visitors.

“A Good Insight”

A very modern, well organised museum detailing the 50 odd different tribes of Vietnam. Especially good were the outside buildings, where authentic replications of various dwellings were on display.

“Very informative about the tribes of Vietnam.”
Reviewed February 19, 2014

I went to this museum after taking a 9 day motorcycle tour of northern Vietnam. I can definitely say that it is a good representation of the different tribes of Vietnam. The museum has many lifelike scenes as well as videos that show you what they are like. There is also an extensive display of artifacts here as well. I think I could have spent more time here if I wasn't trying to see so many other places. Definitely recommended if you get to Hanoi.

“Less is more”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

A well-laid-out, modern museum that does not try to do too much. Inside some carefull-chosen exhibits covering the 53 ethnic groupings in Vietnam, with good tools, textiles and use of videos. Out back transported longhouses and other dwellings from around Vietnam, also a water puppet theatre that does brief shows. An excellent restaurant offering opportunities to disadvantaged youths. We spent 5 hours there and had a great time.
