With just one free weekend during a business trip, I was able to turn a rainy afternoon into a delightful and educational experience. This museum has an impressive collection of artifacts from throughout Vietnam, topped off by an outdoor exhibit of life sized examples of structures from the various ethnic groups. Water puppet shows are held at regular times throughout the day: try to time your visit so you can take this in too.

Loved everything about this museum, it shows you the great diversity of life in Vietnam, completely different to the big city nature of Hanoi.
I imagine in the future that this museum will be updated to show the growth and progression of this absolutely amazing country!

This is an interesting and engaging museum with thoughtful and well-presented displays. The outdoor replicas of ethnic minority-style buildings are particularly good fun.

I took all my family here and even though my brother is not really a big fan of museums and cultural venues, he actually enjoyed the experience. Me and my boyfriend, we were extremely impressed by this museum, especially since I am a bit obsessed with history and I love spending time in museums. So this was a treat for me and the museum is incredibly rich in artifacts and a great way to spend time in Vietnam if you are on a budget. Even if you are not a big fan of museums you should definitely visit this one especially since it has both indoor and outdoor display. If you really want to immerse yourself in the culture and understand this fascinating country better, this is probably where you should start.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of Ethnology museums, but was taken here during a morning in Hanoi; well put together, an incredible amount of artefacts and there are even full-size examples of buildings outside that you look at replicas of inside.

A great starting point if you are considering an excursion to Sapa or remote areas of the highlands.
