i have no idea why lonely planet and trip advisor recommend this múeum so much. it was crowded, hot, and boring. it was just a bunch of posters and old artifacts but i feel like you could learn more about hanoi from just walking around. i definitely considered this a waste of my time in hanoi.

Thank amy w

We visited the museum with out three young children. They (and us) were duly impressed with many of the exhibits but on the whole the exhibits need to be upgraded and refreshed. They ought to be made more interesting as they all require lots of reading which was did not go down well with the kids.

The outside area showing different homesteads was impressive and would be of interest to children. But, perhaps we were very hot and tired (the air-conditioning is not very effective) from the tour inside, we just wanted to move on.

very helpful museum to understand the diversity of the country, good snapshots about the diverse ethnic groups of Vietnam. The visit of the houses in the park is also very interesting.
A great visit

Best museum of the lot with 4 good floors and much more indepth explanations, all translated to English and French. Good A/C and good displays. War section is the pick but was surprised to find the textile/clothing exhibts also interesting.

We enjoyed our tour of the museum, especially the outside garden which has houses from different periods.

The gift shop has some lovely items and it is run by the nonprofit, Craftlink.
