Off the beaten path, but journey worth taken. Delightful museum describing the eclectic cultures and early inhabitants of this wonderful country. Charming look at various tribes solutions to obtaining food, creating shelters, making textiles, and finding spirituality. Inspiring.

Wonderful way in a couple of hours to see the history of the diverse groups, languages, clothing and building architecture of this country. Walking through the structures built by the different ethnic groups to ensure authenticity was a great experience for my family!

Great outdoor exhibits. Worth paying the entrance fee. The outdoor exhibits are much better than the inside ones in terms of attractiveness.

We found the museum intriguing and comfortable on the different cultural organizations in Vietnam. But you will find English explanations with anything at all, as well as movies which are fascinating. A lot of wonderful artifacts. Outdoors, you are going to find a couple of buildings and complexes you're able going through, then with tons of purpose in English. You are going to find houses, community halls, farm buildings, so on. The food was excellent and the ambiance actually pleasant. We would definitely suggest this museum, that also had a truly great gift shop.

probably the largest and undoubtedly the most interesting place I ever saw.  The Museum comes out of the recognition that Vietnam is a multi-ethnic country and that more attention should be paid to promote socio-cultural diversity. Despite being out of the way compared with other museums in Hanoi, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is worth a thorough visit, for those who are keen to learn about the multiculturality of Vietnam and for those who would appreciate some green space.

Exceeded our expectations. Fascinating coverage of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups. Apart from the two main buildings containing archive materials there is a series of reconstructed traditional houses in the beautiful grounds and an open air eater puppet show (extra charge). Entry into the Museum costs just VND 40000. The cafe serves well priced meals and drinks and perfect for a leisurely lunch during your visit.

We learnt so much about the history of all the different ethnic groups and were fascinated by the colourful costumes and lifestyle.

Our family (couple with three young kids) visited this place on a Saturday and spent almost 5 hours in there, from late morning, lunch and three hours in afternoon. This is unique museum in that it not only shows what is expected in a museum like photos or antiques, but also shows real-size houses built by many Vietnamese minorities. It was really amazing to see how different the architecture could be from one place to another, and all the know-how they have despite modest resources. Insightful for kids and adults alike.
Having a restaurant with affordable (yet a bit higher that average) price is a plus, since we didn't need to get out and thus, we could really take our time to explore the place, which with kids from 2 to 7 is never an easy thing. The museum shop has also great souvenirs with modest prices, and also a green area where kids can play after the visit. The museum also holds a water puppet show (that we didn't attend). Living in Saigon, this place of culture was like an oasis. Really interesting!
