“Interesting if you're the History / Museum Kind of Person”
Reviewed November 15, 2011

Our city tour took us and the guide was good to explain most things. There's an entrance fee, usually included in the tour price. I am a history fan but my wife was more interested in understand what colours/ cloths / food different ethnic groups used, so it was interesting to her too. Another couple from Malaysia in our tour (we were the only 4 in the tour) also enjoyed, they found many similar tribal things and vibed with the displays there. There are very informational videos going on, I wanted to watch more but the tour guide was pushing us forward, I think would be best if you reach there yourself, keep half a day, watch the videos and walk slowly around, you'd understand more. Many artifacts have captions / explanations in English, so you don't have to wonder what each is. There's a wide variety of things from history of Vietnam, life and times of the different ( 40-50 ) ethnic / tribal people from all over, if you're starting your Vietnam tour from Hanoi, it would be best to start from here, you'd enjoy the country with more perspective, I wish we had done that instead of starting from Saigon. It's a colourful display of many things, would recommend about 2-3 hours and can stretch easily to half a day. The restaurant looked deserted, tour guide said not good (probably motivated to take us elsewhere),

“Brilliant exhibitions”
Reviewed November 15, 2011

Always visit here when I'm in Hanoi. Take the time to explore the outside displays of minority group housing. Some reno's happening on level 2 at the moment - so not as many displays at the moment - but still worth a visit.

“A great museum”
Reviewed November 14, 2011

This is a terrific place to learn about the ethnic cultures of Vietnam. The setting is peaceful and makes for a great time to get away from Hanoi's bustle while learning about the country. Fun to climb in and around all of the houses. Highly recommended.

“Allow plenty of time for this museum”
Reviewed November 13, 2011

Very interesting. Focus is on the ethnic groups that are a part of the early history of this country. English and Vietnamese written materials available at all displays. You do not need a tour guide to thoroughly enjoy this museum and the displays outside the main building. Wished we had several more hours to spend, as this was one of the most interesting museums we encountered.

“A "must see" for me!”
Reviewed November 12, 2011

Not the easest place to get to, but taxis are plentiful and are sometimes willing to wait. We've gone at least 3 times and each time I see more. I tell anyone who asks that this is a place not to be missed! (I'm a history & cultural fan, so this is high on my list.)
