“フレンチベトナム。 French Vietnam.”
Reviewed November 8, 2013

This is a French Modern and Vietnamese nostalgic petit hotel.

Location:You can see real Hanoian life around hotel, there are a lot of restaurants and travel agency. To get to the hotel, you take an alley from Ly quoq su Road, then you have to go on smaller allay one more time. The holel at the almost end of the allay, for the first time this location looks a little bit tricky, because it is not easy to find hotel from address and you cant fine their sighboard from the corner of the alley. 2 min-walk from Cathedral, 5min-walk from Hoan kiem lake.
Rooms:I stayed in Cinnamon and Lemongrass. Those rooms both have small window only but white walls and simply cozy furniture make the room open.Room itself, bathroom are very clean.
All necessary amenitiese are prepared.
Staffs:Reservation women[ Thu Hien ], all receptionists are very smart and kind. They welcomed my selfish requets.

Maison d'Orient is a charming hotel tucked away on a quiet street by the Cathedral in Hanoi's Old Quarter. We had a wonderful stay at the Maison and looked forward to coming "home" every day. The staff are very friendly, helpful and just plain lovely; the rooms clean, spacious and elegantly decorated in classic hanoian style. Great value and yummy breakfasts, too!

Maison is a quiet oasis, just steps away from the hustle and bustle of hanoi's busy streets. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay there again the next time we're in the neighbourhood.

Room Tip: Anything on the 5th floor is best!

My family and 15 of our closest friends chose Maison D'Orient in Hanoi based on a recommendation and we all agreed we'd would come back in a heart beat.

If you're looking for a super luxury hotel in Hanoi where everything is immaculate to the point of lacking character, Maison isn't for you. But if you are interested in seeing more local life around you and staying in a local hotel that is beautifully designed, comfortable, convenient, safe and reasonably priced, Maison is the perfect choice. It is located right in the heart of the bustling old quarter, a mere 2 minute walk to the cathedral. The area is abundant with good restaurants, street food and shopping. But by no means is the hotel noisy. Once you enter its cul-de-sac location, the noise from the street simply vanishes.

The rooms are beautifully designed with lots of great local decor, fully equipped and perfectly clean. Some of them provide fantastic view of the old quarter (picture). Being a small hotel, not everything is perfect and not all the rooms are the same but they are all kept to a high standard. The doubles are generally very spacious, some rooms can accommodate a family up to 4 adults and 2 children.

The breakfast is good with a variety of continental choices and hot local options. For the entire 5 nights we stayed there, I don't think any of us felt the need to go out for breakfast.

The staff is brilliant. They were courteous, friendly, spoke good English (and some French I assume) and extremely helpful to each of my 15 guests. They booked us cars to and from the airport, taxis to get around town and gave us great local restaurant recommendations. They were always quick in responding to any requests and even helped to book local tours for us. This is a great testament to the very hands-on owner/manager of the hotel, whom I got to know after staying here. Hien is a delight to work with and is a great example of customer care to her staff.

I cannot thank Maison enough for making our stay such a lovely, smooth-sailing experience. I would get that some travellers like staying at luxury places, but to really know Hanoi you need to stay at somewhere like Maison. You will be supporting a great local business and will have the true hanoian experience. Thank you Maison D'Orient!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony for a lovely local view of the old quarter in Hanoi.

I stayed my 5 first nights in Vietnam at Maison d'Orient, and would go back there without any hesitation:
-the whole staff is very nice and welcoming
-the hotel is beautifully designed, comfortable, and rooms are fully equipped and perfectly clean
-the location is very central, with easy access to the whole Old Town area, but without any compromise about tranquility as you have to go through a little alley to find it
I strongly recommend Maison d'Orient, and encourage its staff to carry this way ! :)

Good place to stay at a fabulous location: everything in the old quarter at your doorstep, but due to the convenient alley that it is located in, it is absolutely quiet once you are inside. Nice restaurants and several sights close by. Do take the card of the hotel, as taxi drivers will not know where to find it.
Loved to room design. Our Star Anise room was spacious and comfortable. Bed was a bit hard, but this is an issue thoughout Vietnam. As aircon does not quite reach the bathroom, this area gets piping hot during the day. Good shower, decent breakfast, good wifi. Recommended.

Room Tip: There is a Star Anise room on the 3rd floor and one on the 2nd. Opt for the latter, as it involves l...

This is a great place to stay in the old town with plenty of character and comfortable, good value accommodation. It's a bit hidden away, down an alley, so make sure you get good directions. Service was mostly very friendly.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the building have more character but are a little noisier.

I picked this hotel after much research as it seemed to have the hanoian style and atmosphere I was looking for. We stayed or two nights in Star Anise, room 201 and it was exactly what I had hoped. Beautiful decor with three shuttered windows, high ceilings, Art Deco furniture and vietnamese art was perfect and exactly right for the city. The bathroom was good, the mini bar reasonable and the breakfast was also very nice. The staff were very helpful if some what limited English. My sister stayed in lemongrass which was smaller and smelt a bit foisty. The first floor location want it looked out over a wall, so I would recommend requesting a higher floor for this room type.

We returned for a night after our trip to Ninh Binh and also stayed in a Star Anise room but this time on the 5th floor. The room was smaller with lower ceilings, but with a large balcony with views of the city. I was a bit disappointed as it lacked the atmosphere of the original room and was a bit of a hike up the stairs. The staff (different ones) were also slightly less friendly on our return visit. Be prepared that they keep hold of your passports for the duration of your stay.

Location wise the hotel is down a small street jut off a busier street that was backpacker central, but was extremely centrally located with great restaurants, street food stalls and bars nearby.

Room Tip: Request floors 2, 3 and 4 or the best rooms with space and high ceilings. Would recommend spending t...
