We chose the Old Quarter on a whim, being tired of cities that have become sterile, cookie cutter copies of too many other cities, even too much like home. We were absolutely charmed by all the street life, bars, restaurants, food stalls, the Old Quarter of Ha Noi was such an explosion of sights, sounds, life and vibrancy we fell in love with it in minutes. Be aware though, the traffic, scooter, bikes and cars do not respect crossings, or pedestrians and blocked paths mean a lot of walking in the gutters, not to my liking at all! All in all, simply fascinating experience, highly recommended but be very careful of traffic and crossings, only rule is no rules!

Old quarter is essentially a good place to stay for tourist looking to move around Hanoi. Bun Cha Dac Kim is nearby (famous bun cha - beware of fake one nearby)

In case you go to Hanoi you should walk or even carry a cycle ride (with rider) around the existing Quarter. This's exactly where everything is purchased and offered on the street. A wide array of sights scents and tastes. Each of this mixed in with the ridiculous driving of natives on mopeds. Do not care you're very secure in every regard apart from several of the food.

We found the old quarter noisy, busy and interesting. There is order in chaos in its narrow streets. When we arrived at the quarter for the first time, crossing the street was quite intimidating yet exciting and adventurous. It took us just an afternoon to get used to crossing streets where motor cycles, cars and bicycles were criss-crossing front and back yet we saw no accident! We found that walking at night was quite safe. Eating places are everywhere and within walking distance of most hotels at the Old Quarter. For those with stomach issues street foods need to be handled with care. There are a number of bank teller machines and withdrawing money with debit cards was easy. There are a lot of nice French style buildings near the lake and night views there are rather pretty. There are interesting cultural and historical buildings too.

We loved the vibe and atmosphere n Hanoi. A really bustling city where when crossing she street you take your life in your hands, beautiful archtecure, and a very interesting walk from hotel along the lake, past the Pagoda and the Red Bridge to the local markets.fod is incredible and so many little street food restaurants

You can enjoy walking on this nice place. It is considered as a night market where you can find a lot of shops, also a lot of street food shops.

OLD QUARTER has lots of Hanoi history on every street. Great place to meander around and enjoy some good local food. It is safe area but still keep your belongings and wallet secure. Old Quarter is short walk to lovely lake.

A maze of narrow streets packed with vendors on both sides. Some operating out of their shop, others setting up shop on the sidewalk, while others just had their wares on the back of a bicycle.Streets are named for the principal activity, for example Blacksmith Street. A vibrant scene! Touring on the back of a Vespa motor scooter puts you right in the mix.
