This area of Hanoi is a must for any visitor whether on foot, cyclo or the newer elctric tourist buggy. This area portrays the bustle of an old city where the essence of the place is hard work. There are such a variety of items available in their specialist streets that you wish there was something like it at home. Hopefully the B&Q's of this world do not find there way into a city centre like this.

Our Hanoi experience started with a taxi scam from the airport in a mai linh taxi, I recommend organising a hotel pick up but if you catch a taxi do not get in unless you negotiate a price or the taxi meter. Hanoi Old Quarter is very exciting and interesting. Most locals in Hanoi are not the friendliest people with 3 days being more than enough time to spend here to see and experience everything. I stayed at the Hanoi Moment 2 Hotel in the Old Quarter which was fantastic.

We loved staying in the Old Quarter. However, be prepared to walk over erratic, uneven sufaces in noisy, crowded and sometimes quite chaotic conditions. Not recommended for the unfit, the infirm or the anxiety-prone.

We walked here from our hotel and it is a really charming area of the city with lots of old buildings and narrow streets
