Get ready to be swamped by adults and children alike for money for anything. Still worth seeing--check out the night market and the lake.

Hanoi is a magical place ,the buildings are so amazing most of my photographs are of the architecture , the people work long days but still show smiles. Life in Hanoi is so extreme to what my children and we are used to in Australia. So very important for all to experience. Maybe give a little something back when you are there. Like don't mark them down with costs, its cheap anyway they work so hard for there $. 'Old Quarters' very special place...

The streets are narrow with a lot of traffic. Crossing the roads is a challenge. The street are all characterised by the goods they sell. Need to bargain and compare the price if you don't want to get ripped off.

The hustle and bustle of the old quarter is great. Best to sit at a corner bia hoi, enjoy extremely cheap beer and great food and watch the vietnamese drivers negotiate their cars and motorcycles through the absolutely chaotic traffic while also seeing people walking across the road. Great restaurants to choose from and a great vibe.

Most interesting to see the old French Colonial buildings along side the newer post-war buildings. A bit schizophrenic to be with pedestrians, bicylists, mopeds, small motorcycles, rickshaws and cars on streets without streetlights.....One just looks for a break in the traffic and then starts out, without stopping, without changing pace, and everyone simply works around you. But it works.....
