Great atmosphere. Busy, crowded, noisy, a bit grotty, but that's part of its charm. Crossing the roads is a challenge but it's good practice for when you have to cross the wider streets outside the old quarter. Plenty of shopping but be ready to haggle.

Old buildings and vibrant streets that are being replaced as cities modernise, see it before its gone.

Streets in Hanoi old quarter were so busy all days & all nights, chilling out for eating & shopping was not bad, staff at hotel could show some good place to visit

We stayed in the Old quarter for 6 days during our visit to Hanoi. The people are friendly, the sights amazing (watch the traffic) and the food wonderful.

There a many hotels located in this area, ranging from 15USD upwards. If you are not happy with your hotel look elsewhere as there is a lot to choose from. The shopping was interesting, a street full with nothing but towels, the next street nothing but brass where, another nothing but hardware.

While there you must do a cyclo tour around 150,000 dong for 1 hour. It’s a great way to see the city at street view and get amongst the traffic.

When dining try to dine on a balcony with street views and watch the people go by its amazing viewing, just be careful of the traffic.

Interesting to walk around and buy typical souvenirs but not specially of good quality. Really difficult to walk on the sidewalks as are occupied by parked motorbikes or stalls. Noisy, what you think Vietnam is...
