Owner description: Resembling the Opéra Palais Garnier, Hanoi Opera House, built in 10 years since 1911 by two French architects. The magnificent building became one of the top landmarks in Hanoi. The Opera House hosts cultural entertaining performances, bamboo cirque, contemporary dance, orchestra concerts and government events. Come to the front gate to check availability and ticket to a performance in this iconic building.

The Opera house is pretty to look at in the afternoon sun. You can take a photo from opposite but do be careful as traffic is heavy there especially at the roundabout.

The architecture on the outside is magnificent, but, if you get a chance to go to a show....by all means, do it!! It is an experience. I saw "Black Voices" from Great Britain in May of 2012. It was great and it was such a great venue.

Generally shows here are pretty good, and very far in between. If something is playing, you should take the time to go see it. The theatre is in wonderful condition, and you can only go in to visit if you are seeing a show. I was lucky to take in a few different events here, and I was impressed with all of them.
Now, you can grab tickets from fairly aggressive scalpers outside, which doesn't seem to be a problem, and offers a substantial savings. I have a feeling that the scalpers are friends with the ticket booth ladies, and there is a kickback- after all, that's how Vietnam functions.

Nha Hat Lon - litteraly 'The Great House for Singing' dates back to French Colonial days, built in 1911 as an opera house - as part of the French 'mission civilatrice' to Vietnam.
These days it used for a great variety of concerts - from classical concerts, to jazz and fusion music - and a number of other cultural events.
When in Hanoi - do not miss Nha Hat Lon!
