Owner description: This temple alongside Lake Hoan Kiem was built in the 19th century, and named after Saint Van Xuong. Confucian scholar Nguyen Van Sieu had a large pen-shaped tower built at the entrance of the temple in 1864, featuring three Chinese characters, Ta Thanh Thien, which literally means "to write on the blue sky is to imply the height of a genuine and righteous person's determination and will."

A cozy and quite temple on an island. Beautiful temple with an interesting statue of a turtle. Worth a visit.

If walking to Hoan Kiem lake, you can go visit the small temple often crowded with people. To see: the Golden Turtle

When you visit Hanoi capital, Ngoc Son temple awaits for you. Our travelers told that Cosmos Travel Vietnam Co., Ltd did a great job while recommending this site, Hoan Kiem Lake and Water Puppet Show

“ok if you have time”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

Very pleasant location and well worth a stroll to this attraction if your accommodation is nearby.

The temple itself is rather small and not tending to show anything different to the many other temples: except for the rather large preserved tirtle

“Morning walks”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

We stayed for a week in Ly Thai To st., 2 minutes away from this temple, the most visited temple in Ha Noi I supposed. Every morning, it is filled by local people. Elderly doing their morning exercise, students practicing their english, etc. Its a small place with such a significance for the people and a nice place to visit and observe the locals too! I enjoyed every morning I walk by this place!
