Owner description: A rare breed of turtle enjoys this popular lake almost as much as countless locals and tourists. Hoan Kiem Lake is a dynamic daily tableau, from morning walks amid locals doing exercises on the shore, to young couples water-gazing on park benches, to the multiple shopping and sight-seeing opportunities in the vicinity. Centrally located in the city, Hoan Kiem Lake serves as a massive home base, and provides endless people-watching and recreational opportunities on the edge of the Old Quarter.

“Simply beautiful!”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

We walked to the lake in the early morning and were astounded by the number of people out there exercising. Lots of groups of people doing Tai Chi, people walking, running, cycling, doing weights or yoga. A beautiful spot to people watch (or join in the fun). There are quite a few cafes and restaurants around the edge of the lake to stop for a drink or bite to eat, a nice wide walkway to saunter around the whole lake with lots of seats and places to stop and take in the view and plenty of photo opportunities all the way around.

“Great Place to go for a Walk”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

What a wonderful place to spend a few hours and enjoy the serenity of the lake. We walked around this beautiful lake a number of times. Being Tete, there were beautiful flowers placed all around the lake. Many people were busy taking photos. Lotus flowers were in bloom. It was a tranquil place where locals were walking their dogs, sitting on benches, playing checkers, doing yoga or Tai Chi. It is also a great place to go for ice-cream or just sit on a bench watching the world go by. Enjoy the lake when visiting the Old Quarter.

“Interesting and very pretty setting”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

After a cyclo ride we walked over a series of small bridges to an island in the lake. There were lots of older Vietnamese playing a form of checkers and relaxing around the gazebo, You have a good view of the lake from different directions.

“Nice for a coffee or beer”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

This lake is effectively the cultural and social centre of Hanoi. You cannot really miss it and the temple on the island on it. Walked around it many times and took in the sights both good and bad. There are some top-end bars and restaurants and some bottom-end backpacker style places...so something for everyone. Great view at night too. Recommend strongly.
