Owner description: A rare breed of turtle enjoys this popular lake almost as much as countless locals and tourists. Hoan Kiem Lake is a dynamic daily tableau, from morning walks amid locals doing exercises on the shore, to young couples water-gazing on park benches, to the multiple shopping and sight-seeing opportunities in the vicinity. Centrally located in the city, Hoan Kiem Lake serves as a massive home base, and provides endless people-watching and recreational opportunities on the edge of the Old Quarter.

“Lovely walk”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Join the citizens of Hanoi and take a stroll around the lake. I would say don't bother crossing the red pedestrian bridge, but it's $1 and you will anyway. Go to City View coffee to get a birds eye view of the whole lake!

“A nice ride around the lake”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

Well, in march the weather is just perfect. Walking around the lake can be relax, riding on the cyclo was even better. I paid 50,000vnd for a nice round.

You can visit the temple with a little fee as well.

“Not much of a sight to see, but an experience to be had!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

The physical characteristics of the lake itself aren't really impressive: the water is green, polluted, and the lake temple ticket is overpriced. That being said, the real experience of the walking around the lake is in the evening on a weekend night. Families will flock to the lake to treat their kids to icecream, groups of women will do dance/exercise classes, and both young and old couples will stroll romantically around the lake. Bonus treat: follow the neon lights and find kids and their families roller blading in the nearby square.

“Great social place”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Locals will talk to you all the time, dont be afraid they are nice people and the Young ones like to learn English. The lake is not for swimming and sometimes you will see water snakes here.
The colour of the water is not clear.
I often walk around this lake good to keep fit and easy walking

“Dirty, Not Well Cared For”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

This place is right on the main road to central city, so you can visit it in about 10 minutes, but only if you want to say you've been there. Modest entrance fee to a dilapidated bridge in need of upgrading that crosses to dirty, run down temple encircled by dead trees and filthy water. Not a highlight.
