The children like to wonder here and see how the American pilots had to endure while living here. Interesting and easy to get to if you are taking a city tour from the river.

“A must see but not that exciting”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

You have to visit because you've probably heard so much about it but I didn't think it was that great. You get to walk around through quite a bit of buildings but it just wasn't that fascinating like I expected. I think they 'doctor' up how they treated the Americans to make them sound like they were doing us a favor.

“A glimpse into a cruel past”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

I like the preserved sewer tunnel through which prisoners escaped and the almond tree they sat beneath. I hated the obviously special treatment given to American pilots interned during the war.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

Slightly spooky but definitely worth a visit. We were lazy and got a taxi there from the old quarter which was pretty cheap. Slightly imbalanced view of the war and america etc but lots of interesting things to see and read about. Good if you want to learn about a bit of history.

“A must do whilst in Hanoi”
Reviewed March 27, 2014 via mobile

I visited the prison this morning. It is a very sobering moment when one first encounters the conditions that the inmates endured. The prison delivers a lasting experience with sounds that just chill you. The memorial within the prison is beautifully done and the accompanying photo's add to the experience. One wonders how anyone could have survived life in there even for a short time. Again a reflection of mans inhumanity to man.
