“Once here is enough”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

A friend was here for seven years and said "go see my cell". So I did. It was a disturbing, but something to experience and think about. My friend missed the dinners and festivities somehow.

“Left with a heavy heart”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Everyone has heard of the Vietnam war but to see the story and details of the inmates' life personally is heart-wrenching. Especially the room that is made to resemble a prison quarter. It is a must-go because it makes you understand more about the war and why wars should not exist anymore.

“A story untold”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Entrance fee is 20,000VND. It is interesting to learn what this prison was used for and how they treated their inmates. There were some sad and gruesome artifacts but important to educate us.
This prison is said to be the largest prison in Indochina during the late 1800's. However, you will notice that the prison is actually small. This is because most of the original prison was demolished in 1996 to make way for the Hanoi Towers (which can be seen from the prison). I highly recommend visiting the museum.

“Reality check”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

The prison is a grime reminder of Vietnam's past both under French rule and the imprisonment of US flight crews. It is informative from the point of fact of seeing things from the other side of the coin. With photos and information boards in English it shows daily life in the prison from 1945 to 1973. Word of warning, the guillotine in one of the exhibition halls was one of two that was used in the prison.

“History revealed”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Vivid accounts and photos of captives of North Vietnamese during what the present day Vietnamese refer to as "the American War".

A must stop for anyone who, like myself, was on a quest to understand this period of diverse worldwide opinion.
