Arrived at 9 and queued for about 1 hr in a long procession of Vietnamese tourists. Definitely worth it. Stoic soldiers in sparkling white uniforms, with heavy backdrop of propaganda music and awe-inspiring geometric architecture. A must for any political enthusiast.

This is a strange place, surreal in the sense that it is very strict on dress code etc., but not quite as austere as the similar mausoleum of Mao Tse-Tung in Beijing. A worthwhile experience while visiting Hanoi, although westerners will probably find the unquestioning reverence of Uncle Ho a little odd. My best tip would be to get there early, as the place closes at 10ish. With all the building works around the area and the confusing directions to the entrance, we arrived too late and had to go back the next day.

Make sure your shoulders and knees are covered as we nearly got sent away, but luckily my shorts rolled down! Long queue but went quickly - you have to keep moving so all over and done with quickly - but very surreal and really worth it! No bags or cameras.

Yes this is the most serious place in Vietnam for tourist. You must wear appropriately while visiting. It was surrounded by guards and open only in the morning. Be earlier to visit this place. Although it is only a short period, you can look at Ho Chi Minh's mummified body. To know him more, proceed to the small wooden house and another grand residence he used to live. The museum nearby is not bad as well.

Make sure to get there early as the queues build up quickly and they stop letting people line up jut after 10am. A worthy experience, even though it's odd to gaze upon a dead man in a box, it's worth it to witness how many Vietnamese people make a pilgrimage to see HCM's remains and how they react. It will give you a better understanding on his role in the national consciousness.
