They are very strict on how you approach the mausoleum. No camera, no hats, no hands in pockets. You are frog marched along outside up to the mausoleum. Once inside you mustn't stop, but there is planets of time to see Ho Chi Minh embalmed in his coffin. He's been there for 40 years and is flown to Russia yearly for maintenance. A bit of a weird experience but why not?

By the time we got there (10am) there was a queue of about two thousand people - no exaggeration! We didn't realise we were staying just 2 kms from the mausoleum but the taxi metre went so fast it almost spun off the dashboard! VN 1,630,,000 (USD 55) later and a grand tour of a few blocks twice over, we arrived to find the huge queue. We didn't bother in the end and walked back to our hotel for FREE!

We showed up at 8AM, waited approximately 15 minutes in line, saw the mausoleum, and finished the visit 15 minutes later. If you arrive later, I suspect the line will be long. Worth the visit just to see the national role Ho Chin Minh played in Vietnam. There is no cost associated with our visit.

This is one of those things that you just have to see - the building itself is not that amazing but it is interesting to see how highly he is still regarded by the locals. Also quite eerie to see the Soviet hammer and sickle flags flying en mass in the square

IIt was good for the most part and the vietnamese respect their beloved leader greatly since they have built this museum in his honour much against his wishes. The grounds are nicely kept..unlike the rest of Hanoi. Cost is minimal and only for foreigners.
