I've always had a thing for really large and interesting buildings and since this one was close to were we were staying, we decided to pay it a visit. Good thing I made my research first as they have a lot of rules for visitors, including a garment interdiction i.e you're not allowed to wear tank tops or miniskirts. You're not allowed to take photos either, so thumbs down for that. Its their right, I won't comment on that, but it would've been nice to be able to take some photos to capture the architectural marvel of this attraction. There's no fee required as well, and the outskirts of this temple are also beautiful. Do visit if you're truly interested in Vietnam's history and culture!

Except if you are particularly interested on corpses or Ho Chi Minh himself, avoid the queues and bureaucracy: take your photos from outside and move on. The one pillar pagoda is next door and much more interesting, for instance. And the lakes are just 7 minutes walking away.

huge lines to see an national hero but for westerners, very little to justify the visit. The building is lavish but uninspired

Thank goodness Americans do not feel the need to display the dead bodies of their dead leaders. Building a monument of some sort or another is preferable to being herded by a dead body.

While qeueing (for some time if you dont get there early enough) you get the drill on how to behave - no talking, laughing etc. But nothing really prepares you as you enter the cool, dimly lit chamber holding the embalmed body. Is it all real? Yep, very surreal.
