This was one of my favorite stops in Hanoi. I am a design/textile junkie who loves history and art. Not to mention the museum is air conditioned and a quiet retreat from the crazy Hanoi streets. As you wander thru the museum you wander thru time dating back to the 15th century and before working your way up to modern day Vietnam. The history of Laquer painting is also quiet remarkable.

“Revealing experience”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

It offers a fascinating spectrum of Vietnamese art, from ancient to very modern. A very satisfying and revealing experience. There is not much of contemporary artists on show. A visit to the museum can easily combined with a trip to the Temple of Literature

“Worth a visit if you have the time”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Spent about an hour here checking out the local art. There wasn't many people around and the pathway through the gallery is a little confusing but there are plenty of art works to view.

There is certainly a major emphasis on revolutionary art and Vietnamese propaganda but it doesn't necessarily detract from the enjoyment of seeing some nice works.

The gallery is a little away from the city centre but if you enjoy art and have the time you will appreciate a visit

“Interesting museum”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Definitely worth visiting. Older art was interesting although nothing especially remarkable. However, we were impressed by the contemporary art.

“Good museum but..”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

Some great pictures but will be spoiled because they are not looked after. Staff sit together and chat rather than ensure the art collection is safe. Flash photography is allowed which will eventually ruin some of the exhibits. If you are in the area worth a visit but don't make a special journey. They shop was shut with no explanation either.
