“Splendid array of the old and new.”
Reviewed June 19, 2012

Artworks ranging from the ancient (few thousand years old) to the new (20th century) was a delight to see. Ancient sculptures of dragons, lions, buddhas, and wonderfully decorated ancient doors were nice to see on the first level. Then the more recent artworks on silk, oil painting, wood-lacquering was brilliant.

“OMG - World class art”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Was blown away by the moving and technically brilliant art in this gallery. Rooms and rooms of great lacquer work paintings (unique to Vietnam I think) glows with mood and mystery, this gallery just HAS to be seen, on a par with European museums featuring far more well known masters. Worth a visit!

“History lesson”
Reviewed June 7, 2012

The fine arts museum has an extensive history of Vietnam through art works. To walk through each stage totally inmerses you in this rich and complex history story. It also contains more contemporary works and exhibitions of Vietnamese artists. There's also a shop with great art works at affordable prices, great souvenirs and reminders of Vietnam's rich culture.

“You should not miss it once you are in Hanoi.”
Reviewed June 5, 2012

The hanoi art museum is one of the best place to visit. In this place, you are fascinated by the evolution of vietnamese art, from traditional art like Dong Ho art, Hang Trong Art ( a kind of wood engraving on Do paper), to lacquer paintings - very special vietnamese artwork, and of course modern art. Nowadays, there is an other kind of painting made from the very popular class of people, the embroidery painting.
This is not only a place you can find the works of almost all the famous painter of Vietnam, but you can also understand and across the evolution of the society and the daily life of vietnamese people, through art and age of picture. A meaningful trip across the culture of the country.
Nice visit!

“Probably better when all floors open”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

Two floors, the one's we were most interested in, were closed while undergoing display upgrades. What we did see was a bit ordinary.
