Melia Hanoi
Ranked #77 of 607 Hotels in Hanoi
Reviewed December 8, 2011

We stayed two nights as part of a tour. The usual Melia formula of striking architecture and a Spanish theme has transferred very credibly to Hanoi. The area is nothing special, but ten or fifteen minutes' easy walk takes you to all the central areas. The accommodation is smart and up to date, and we were very comfortable.

WiFi is free but only works in the public areas, but these areas are impressive and pleasant enough to sit in. The restaurant serves a wide range of local and western dishes up to a reasonable hotel standard, with friendly and efficient service. The breakfasts offer a wide range buffet-style, with freshly cooked eggs available to order.

The hotel has a mixed tourist, business and local clientele, without any one category predominating. If you know what to expect from a Melia, then you won't be disappointed here. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Recommended.

This hotel was nice and clean and of the standard of a business hotel, but we had to pay for wifi ($12 per 24 hours) and the breakfast buffet was quite disorganised (had to eat in the lobby bar as the breakfast area was full, which was a bit of a mess as the staff kept doubling up guests on tables). The first night there we were exhausted so had the hotel buffet dinner which was a good choice, quality and service, but was very expensive (as it was a Thursday so included half a lobster each which you could not opt out of). Price was around $40 each I think and was all you could eat inc house wines and draught beer.

The hotel was located near the hanoi hilton - it was a 20 minute walk to get to the centre of town, but very safe.

This was my first time in Hanoi. We stayed in Melia Hotel. Good Accomodation, very near to shopping area. Internet access was fine though we still need to call operator to have it hooked up in the internet. Hotel Staff were very pleasant. They are affiliated to SkyMiles so I liked it more.

I had a great stay at Melia Hanoi. Staff could not be more helpfull and nice, always trying to help. Although not very beautiful on the outside (its an awfull big building in the middle of the French Quarter) as soon as you enter the lobby you forget that. Lobby and restaurant are very well decorated, although rooms could be better, as you get the feeling of a trivial 4 star business hotel. But I had a room with a stunning view of Hanoi, and that was great. Location is good, 5 minute walking to the lake and from there just 5 minutes more to the old quarter and night market. Pool is a bit small for this hotel but ok and breakfast is, as you expected from Melia, very good. Overall I had a wonderfull stay and I would recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a high floor so you can get the nicest view from Hanoi!

Hello,

Among others, II sent these comments to the customer Service and received an apology for the first 2 topics. However no refund or anything else, which would have been appropriate here.

1. Arrival: I agreed per email with your Agent a fixed rate for two people. However when I arrived, the employees told me that this is the rate for one person and I’d have to pay extra. I was then asked to sit and wait until they clarify. After 45 min I asked again If they resolved the case and they told me that the problem was fixed. I however I was not informed by anybody.

2. Hotel Room: The hotel room had yellow dirt on the wall and a spiderweb. Please see the attached pictures as proof (only worst part of the room in pictures).

3. Mini Bar rip off: Inside the room (not inside the mini bar) the water bottle has a sign starting with the sentence: “This bottle of water is provided as a service to our guest…. With this start, I did not read to the end. I found It very drastic that they revealed on a separate list (not visible from there) that this bottle of water costs 6,5 USD + Taxes and so on off course.

4. When you take a shower, the water will not mainly flow into the bathtub, but on the bathroom floor, due to a very intelligent design of the bathtub.

This was my third time to visit Hanoi, but my first stay with any hotel in the Melia group and it was an excellent experience. I really like the Spanish influence in the food and beverage areas and the staff were consistently on their game - at times it seemed like the staff genuinely enjoyed working there. Hanoi hotels are much cheaper than hotels in Singapore or Hong Kong, so I would encourage you to "splash out" a bit and upgrade yourself to the executive rooms or suites. Melia refer to their Exec Lounge as "The Level", so that's what you should ask for. I stayed in one of the suites on the 21st floor and seriously, the suite was enormous. See photo of the bath tub, which is large as well, as an indication that the suite was huge, offering multiple views of the city of Hanoi. Top notch stay. Can't find any significant fault, even the gym was really well equipped.

Room Tip: Make sure you enquire about one of their suites. They. Are. Enormous. It looks like rooms 2019...

Stayed at the Melia Hotel For 3 nights at the start of our tour of Vietnam. Not really sure what to expect but this was a definite 4 star plus hotel! Rooms were spacious and spotless, bathrooms well equipped and free Wi-fi in lobby! Staff were courteous and always helpful. Had a visit to hair salon for a wash and blow dry and was very pleased with result! Swimming pool small but clean and comfy sunbeds! Breakfast buffet gave a very good choice of both local and western cuisine. A short stroll takes you to the prison/ museum and it's about 10 minutes walk to the night Market. Check-in and out was swift and cashier was on hand for exchanging money at very reasonable rates! Yes would definitely stay again!
