“Good Hotel”
Reviewed December 27, 2008

Great Hotel with very good service staff.
I have been to hotel 6 times now and people know me by name.
Couple of areas where they need to improve:
- The carpet is full of stains, need to changed or repaired.
- TV in the room is really an old model doesnt fit into the hilton where I stay generally.

  • Liked — service staff are very polite and helpful
  • Disliked — carpet in the corridoor is dirty & TV is very old model needs to be replaced.

Stayed here for 6 nights with a 5 night Halong Bay/Cat Ba trip sandwiched in the middle during December.

Very pleasently surprising as many reviews seemed fairly negative about this hotel. Welcoming staff on arrival with registration dealt with very efficiently.

We has a lovely 5th floor room with small balcony. Fresh fruit in room on arrival. Rooms are absolutely huge and it looks to have been completely refurbished in recent months. The beds are to die for with super pillows and duvet giving a great nights sleep. Bathrooms also very large with seperate walk in shower. Usual array of Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries as in most Hilton Hotels.

We didn't take breakfast in the hotel.

Also didn't use the leisure facilities so can't really comment.

I must admit that I was cashing in Hilton Reward Points, so I wasn't expecting a 5 star experience, but I cannot recommend a stay at this hotel. I am a frequent traveler (spent 150 nights in hotels in 2008) so I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly.

The hotel itself was ok at best, the rooms are decently sized, but the hotel is about 10 years overdue for a makeover. Hiltons aren't known for their design, but this one has a certain Communist-cum capitalism look to it.

The breakfast has merely adequate - the quality of the food wasn't anything to write home about - at least it didn't make me sick.

My biggest gripe was with the cyclo drivers and the cabs affiliated with the hotel. Both tried to rip me off. I would expect that using a hotel affiliated service would alleviate this common problem in Hanoi, but I was mistaken.

The Metropole is a much better place to stay and has the pedigree, service and history to justify their rates.

Hanoi is just in the early stages of tourism, but the Hilton is wonderful. The staff is friendly, helpful and the food was excellent.

How to have a terrible time in Hanoi? Stay at the hilton. I've never had such bad service, unbelievably rude staff. The spa staff in particular. I checked in hoping to have a nice relaxing time. I left hoping never to return. Do not use this hotel.

This was the first of 3 hotels I stayed at in Hanoi. It was ok. I have stayed in what I deem better luxury hotels but was still happy with this hotel. i had an opera view room. The lobby for this hotel is enormous. My only qualm was the roundabout this hotel is located on- Vietnamese traffic is notoriously hard to navigate on foot and it took me 20 minutes to work out how I was going to get to the other side so I could go to the lake. I much prefer the Sofitel Metropole and if the rate you get is much the same- take that option.
Nice hotel....not one of my Global picks tho

I can not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is too expensive and it upsets me that I paid a lot of money for a nice hotel that turned out to be not good. I left the hotel immediately and changed for what is often considered to be the best hotel in town. The price was almost the same so this solution I can recommend. Or go for a really simple hotel and get better value for money ratio.

I have stayed in many Hilton hotels across Asia and it has often been a very nice experience. Therefore I was surprised to experience this. Until they reinvest some of all the money they make on this hotel in a decent renovation - stay away.
