“Very good hotel with excellent service”
Reviewed July 9, 2014

It's a great place to stay: good location, comfortable rooms, tasty breakfast and excellent service (including careful and prompt laundy). Special thanks to Ms Ngoc, Ms Hoai, Ms Hien and Mr Nam.

The only issue I found is unstable Wi-Fi connection.

We chose to stay here for our visit to Hanoi to play it safe and were rewarded by doing so, a great place in a great location, we had a lake view room and were upgraded to the VIP level on 17 with Awesome views especially at night, I do recommend the lake views. The summit lounge bar on the 20th floor was amazing with 360 degree views around the city, unfortunately it was smoggy and we couldn't see much of the sun set, a caution though there does seem to be a surcharge for drinks purchased from this lounge, but a small price for the views.
Our rooms were spacious and well appointed with great bathrooms and lots of space.
We both indulged in the Spa facilities and were a bit disappointed having experienced them at other stays in Vietnam, it just seemed a bit pokey and old, we weren't given a welcome or farewell drink as had happened at other facilities, (perhaps we had higher expectations) the service was good enough, but the rooms were small and tired, the girl had to squeeze down the wall between the table, we also didn't get to choose the oils for our massage but rather a plastic bottle of some type was used, not what we expected from a 5 star.
The food was great with buffet each night and a selection of western & Asian to choose from both buffet & alacarte.
We checked out to visit Halong Bay and the hotel kept our bags there for our return the following day.
Overall it was a great stay close to the main shopping / water puppet theater as well.

Room Tip: The lake view rooms have large corner windows and cover almost 180deg to allow you a great view.

(+) That rooftop bar (Summit Lounge)! Possibly the best I've been to, and I've been to a fair few. Go to see the sun set over the lake
(+) Good location by West Lake
(+) Loved the downstairs bar offering a view of charming Hanoi heritage
(+) No complaints about the menu with its tasty Vietnamese food
(+) Very comfortable bed
(+) Sunset view from my desk - perfect for that PowerPoint distraction
(+) Friendly staff. For a big hotel it had small hotel charm
(+) Excellent view of the lake from the lift/elevator
(+) Excellent breakfast buffet

(-) The Old Quarter is a taxi hop away, so the hotel isn't entirely centrally located

With our first trip to Vietnam we decided to play it safe and stay at a notable Hotel and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Outstanding service and facilities from the moment we stepped through the front door to the travel breakfast they provided us with on our very early exit to our next destination. An upgrade to 'Club Level' was a great decision If you have the opportunity to stay in one of the best I'm sure you will never settle for second best again...
If there was any negative to speak of was the construction of a new high rise adjacent to us that spoilt the view a little but that was minor..

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise and a better view.

From the moment we stepped through the doors we were greeted with superb service. everything from the reception, concierge to room service and the breakfast restaurant. our room had a lovely view of the water, comfy beds and luxurious bathroom. only thing to fault would be the shower glasses don't stop the water from flowing over and wetting the floor. besides that 10/10

Spent 4 nights at the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi late June 2014.

Service, food, and location were top notch. There are many many choices for hotels in Hanoi.... if you want excellent service, consistent positive experience, and good Asian & Western food, stay here at the Sofitel Plaza Hanoi.

We opted for the club level room since my husband needed a few hours each day for conference calls. Highly recommend the club level rooms if you are considering spending a little extra. The views are spectacular. And wifi is included (I believe).

The breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets at Brasserie restaurant were fabulous with good selection and quality items. Mr Nguyen Chi Nghia (Breakfast/lunch manager) has a keen eye for details, always making sure you feel welcomed (yet never intrusive).

Our experiences with the concierge, the Ming Restaurant, and the Spa were very good. The room itself was clean and comfortable.

Overall, service was impeccable. Staff was friendly and quick to assist with requests with good English skills. This place was a welcomed relief after long days of sight-seeing in the crazy humid Hanoi heat.

Two weeks ago I spent a week around Hanoi and we stayed at the Sofitel Plaza Hotel. The reception upon arrival was friendly and we were all (a group of 6) made to feel welcome.

Of note was my dietary issues that I had previously emailed the Head chef about - they had asked for recipes as I had had a LOT of dietary problems and at breakfast on the first day, the restaurant manager - Mr Nghia sought me out to introduce himself and give me some specially made food. I was looked after and pampered every time I entered the restaurant. due to some major intervention at home, I didn't need things to be quite so restricted, and the restaurant handled the change without query.

There were several requests made of the Concierge and front desk staff. At not time, were we made to feel we were being a pain and if they could, they met our requests with a huge smile and terrific service.

I would like to note the following staff - Ms Loan, Mr Dung, Ms Nga, Ms Hoan and of course the restaurant manager and head chef.

one final note - the Vietnamese coffee is to die for and not to be missed at breakfast!
