This was a business trip but my wife accompanied me. It was a comfortable base, peaceful and quiet, ten minutes from the Old Qiarter by taxi. Loved the peaceful view from our window over the lakes, great service and a very good ambience. We will return. Both loved it.

Our luxury bedroom was large enough to add our son extra-bed and the bathroom was well equipped. The lake view is nice for the sunset. The staff is always friendly and even when you ask late in the evening for a special laundry service after a rainy day because you are soaked, they say OK and in a night time your linen is dry and clean and early in the morning deliver in your bedroom ! The Breakfast is wonderful and the choice really important. The maids are friendly. Try the open roof swimming pool after a busy day . Just a bit surprised that the steam room, the sauna and jacuzzi are shared by male and female ... Within 20 minutes walking you are near the presidential palace.

Room Tip: Ask for the lake view.

Dear Guest,
Bonjour,

Thank you very much for sharing your impressions on your recent stay at Sofitel Plaza Hanoi. We are delighted to hear that our services and facilities have been up to your expectations. Indeed, our rooms on the higher floors offer the most spectacular view on Hanoi's skyline.

We thank you again and look forward to welcoming you again soon to Hanoi.

We spent four nights during a recent trip to Vietnam with our two young boys (aged 5 and 7). On the whole, a great experience and we would very much recommend the Sofitel Plaza to anyone going to Hanoi with or without children, but you need to manage your expectations somewhat. For example, the hotel could use some updating of some areas (e.g. the changing rooms for the gym and the hot tubs). Also, there were some language barriers, but we subsequently discovered that this is not a Sofitel issue, but rather a recurrent theme in Vietnam. However, the Sofitel was very good at correcting mistakes without questions. The differentiating factor was the service all the way from the bellboys, to the front desk, to the concierge, to the restaurant staff.

Although it is a business hotel, we didn’t have any issues staying there with children and the staff were super friendly. Our boys have some dietary requirements and the staff were very good at accommodating them. In particular, Mr. Khai in the Brasserie was exceedingly helpful. The pool on the fourth floor was a big draw for us to keep the kids amused. Yes, it is a pool aimed at corporate warriors, but provided that you go at odd hours (i.e. during working hours), the kids should be able to have fun and be loud.

In terms of location, the hotel is about 15-20 minutes by taxi from the Old Quarter. We actually preferred that that it was not smack in the middle of town, as it was a bit quieter (at least by Vietnamese standards). For our arrival, we arranged for a hotel car to pick us up. That was the right call, as we subsequently got scammed a couple of times in Hanoi. While in most countries we are perfectly happy taking local taxis, in Hanoi for peace of mind, it is worth spending the additional USD50 (compared to a taxi) and taking the hotel car from AND to the airport. (On the return trip to the airport, we decided to take a taxi and wish we hadn’t).

Room Tip: Get a room facing the lake

Stunning view for the West Lake. Room is spacious and bathroom is well equipped.
Pool, gym, jacuzzi and steam room are nice too.
Restaurant (for breakfast) is ok, but they always forget my payment to the breakfast during check in and asked me to pay for 2 consecutive days!

This was my third stay here and it feels like home from home. The executive lounge is brilliant and the views are amazing - breakfasts are especially good here. The area is clearly going through something of a boom right now with lots of new apartment blocks going up around the lake. The staff are friendly and the rooms are spacious, well fitted out, and comfortable. Good internet access and the right side of town for travelling to and from the airport.

Room Tip: If you may only be going once and may not be using the exec floor - it's worth a little extra fo...

Everything in this hotel is 5 star, the rooms are very stylish. The deluxe luxury rooms have an amazing bathroom set out with marble from top to bottom. The amenities are even 5 star.. The view from the rooms a absolutely amazing, I cannot speak any more highly of this hotel. The sauna, steam room, spa are absolutely top notch.
The pool level is great with a all season roof which opens up during a hot day
I can only have 3 complaints
- don't stay on level 18 on a Friday or Saturday the nightclub lounge is on level 20 with pumping music from a DJ at night.
- the bulletin said pool was 30 degrees but was freezing.
- don't eat breakfast at 6:30-7:30 it's to busy with everyone eating before work. We struggled to get a seat had to wait for someone to leave.

Room Tip: Request a lower level room on a Friday or Saturday night,
