A very nice hotel indeed! The information you need has been given in the recent reviews already. My advice is to book a room NOT facing the street as it will be very noisy. Hanoi´s streets are full of lively traffic and everyone who has been there knows the amount of scooters driving around there. And of course how much the drivers love to use the horn... :-)

Room Tip: When booking the colonial wing, insist on a room away from the street!

We loved this hotel, from the moment of you pull up, polite happy door men, opening car doors, helping with the bags, main hotel doors being opened for you, to the happy & polite check-in staff. (And this happened every time we went out and returned to the hotel during the day) We had a Grand Luxury room in the Historical wing with a roll-away bed. Hubby wanted the older style of the hotel and just loved it. The first stay we had a room on the first floor and the second stay we were put on the third floor, both rooms were beautiful. The bedroom was delightful and even with a rollaway bed, the room was still comfortable to be in and a comfortable bed!
We had booked breakfast in our booking and it was a lovely buffet style breakfast. The first night we had room service, as it was late when we checked in, the food was great! We also ate in the Bamboo bar, La Terrasse and Spices Garden Restaurant and loved the food in all of them.
We left our luggage here for a night for a night at Halong Bay and then returned the next day, and still the same great service.
All the staff here are delightful, smiling and polite, always willing to help any way they can. (and might I add I just loved what the female staff were wearing)
No issues with the Wi-Fi.
One of the highlights on staying here was the bunker tour, yes, it is something that you have to book a few days ahead with, but it is worth booking. Mr Duc is just brilliant in giving the tour.
Oh the lights and decorations they had up for Christmas was just so wonderful.
The hotel is close to the old quarter that you can walk in, which we did with no problems. There is also lots of brides that love having their photos taken outside of the hotel, so grab a drink and sit outside at the La Terrasse and watch them, you can also look across the road and watch people play badminton with nets on the footpaths.

Old style opulence of luxury seems almost out of place in so young a country only recently emerging from a marxist backround....but then the French had much to do with it. Surrounded by leading luxury brands, the hotel is not out of place in this quite corner of the main tourist area and only a short walk from the lively lake area where stores and restaurants can be found to meet anyone's tastes. Besides the location, service and sleep quality are impressive in anyone's standard. And wow...the outdoor heated pool was a blessing for our kids while we had day end drinks in the bar next door. Expensive but understandably so, its qualities were lost on our kids who are too young to place a premium on the level of service that such establishments offer. The hotel is built around a swimming pool and garden which were done up with lights and santa reindeer sleds and "2014" lights which all appeared breath-taking at night. The only thing missing was snow. For a great steak, walk out the hotel turn right and right again at the next road. On the left hand side is Gaucho's. Go hungry!!!

We stayed here 2 nights, before and after a trip to Halong Bay.
Check-in was professional, swift and courteous.
We were upgraded on our first stay to a Grand Premier Room (Opera Wing). These rooms are beautifully furnished with excellent amenities. The only small issue was the bathroom privacy. The bathroom runs the width of the room with two openings which are covered only by sheer curtains offering no privacy. The bed was a bit hard for my liking but might suit some.
The room on our second stay was an Opera wing premium room. Again this was beautifully appointed and overlooked a garden area. This time the bathroom was separated and had a door which was more practical. Again the bed was a bit on the hard side.
We ate in the bar on both stays. The food and drinks were excellent as was the service. The jazz band playing on both nights was very enjoyable with a very charismatic singer.
We highly recommend the bunker visit in the hotel which is very informative and can be booked at reception or at the Concierge's desk. This is for hotel guests only and is conducted by a historian who gives you a great summary about the history of the hotel and Hanoi itself.
The hotel is centrally located and a great starting point for a wander around the main central part of Hanoi.
The only issues for us in Hanoi and on the trip to Halong Bay were the choking pollution, litter and dust which detracts from the overall experience and is a real shame. Also crossing the road is a near death experience that you will never forget!
Despite these issues it is almost worth visiting this hotel as a destination in itself.
Check-out was fast and efficient and the doorman even called our taxi company to chase our driver when he didn't turn up on time.
Overall a great hotel with excellent staff.

We stayed in this hotel last week for 3 nights. The place was very beautiful and the room was luxurious and with very good amenities. What we really did not like at all was the restaurants. We had dinner in Garden Spices and Angelina. In both restaurants the food was not good and they were really overpriced. We recommend the hotel but eat somewhere else!
