I am not really sure of which Ashima I went to. Apparently there are 3 Ashima's in Hanoi and since i was only there for a day, I did not really ask about the location. I only recalled the restaurant I went was near Kim Ma road (if that is even correct!).
The first few items were spring rolls. We had 2 variations of the vietnamese spring rolls; one was fried and dipped in mayonaise while the other had beef and dipped into a clear sweet sauce. Then we had the beef-enoki rolls.
The hotpot came after that, with heaps of mushrooms thrown in. I lost count of how many types of mushrooms were there. Very stumptious treat. I did mention that I have not had so many types of mushrooms in a year. Soup was clear and tasted, well, like mushrooms.
They had a special dip, made with ground nuts, some ginger and coriander. They add the soup later on to make it easier to dip.
As we had a vegetarian, we did not add the prawns and beef until she was done eating. The meat did thicken the soup, giving it a different flavour.
We ended the meal with some pomelo. Drinks were ok. Had passionfruit juice, one of the local fruits.
Service was great. They will serve each individual item to your bowl/plate. If you were having mushrooms and there are still some in the hotpot and none in your bowl, they will fill it up for you.
Worthwhile to give it a try, since Malaysian doesnt have any of such hotpot.
