After two long flights, we checked into the Essence Hotel and went to the Essence Restaurant for a late lunch. Staff were welcoming and took time to explain the menu. We ere keen to try local food, so ordered the fish pancake to start. What a treat! The waiter explained how to wrap and eat the pancake, and checked later that we were enjoying it. Do try it. The menu comprises Vietnamese and Western food, so all tastes are catered for. The L-shaped restaurant feels cosy, with some tables separated by wooden screens. Breakfast again offered Asian and Western foods, with staff quickly clearing tables, topping up coffee and tea cups, and ensuring we had everything we wanted. Two nights later we ate dinner at Essence, when the cafe recommended to us didn't seem appropriate. The restaurant looked full, but a table was found for us, and again we weren't disappointed with the food and service. The Trip Advisor award is well-deserved.
