We have now had two Vietnamese dinners here, all have been delicious. The staff are very friendly and helpful. What I enjoy the most is they explain how you should eat the dishes if it is your first time, that way you get the most out of the flavours,,,which are fantastic! For between $4.50 - $9.00 you can't go wrong.

The most amazing Vietnamese food. The waiters were extremely friendly and very good in suggesting dishes. Will definitely miss this place.

it's a kind of shelter of quietness and courtesy after the stressing buzzing of the Old Quarter streets. Super friendly and smiling staff (and good English too). Sharp, elegant and well spaced room. it's a pleasure to enter the restaurant and take a break while surfing the menu'. prices are very reasonable, but the quality of execution just above average and for sure below the expectations. Very good Carrot soup (we ordered some extra ginger and it arrived promptly for free). The beef noodle soup was ok but the shrimps in tamarind sauce very dull. Dessert: ok the passion fruit cream, but don't opt for the fruit tarte: uncooked.
No surprise on the bill: very reasonable.

I was surprised by the friendly staff and the amazing food. I had the best pumpkin soup ever at Essence Cafe.

The staff is very courteous. 20 minutes after we reached the cafe, a large group of 10 Singaporean tourists arrived at the next table. After we placed our second round of orders. The staff informed us that our order might take upto 25 minutes as the large group has just placed their orders. We were surprised to be served in 10 minutes. The best food I had in Hanoi. Do visit at least once. Old quarter is THE place to shop, so you can have all your meals here :)

Although there are so many good reviews, the food are not deserved for those reviews.
Only the taste of salad was reliable, for the main courses like the beef, fried vegetables and fried noodles were really not good. If you are from Asia, then you will know no matter what they cook, they just put pepper, salt and soy sauce. Therefore, all the dishes taste the same.
