Description: Pots ‘n Pans is about innovation. Vietnamese cuisine infused with an international flair. Our food takes the best ideas from modern Vietnamese and puts a new spin on them. The flavours are familiar but done differently. We don’t want to detract from what we believe to be the core of Vietnamese cuisine which is a big emphasis on fresh and local ingredients. However, we believe that the produce found in Vietnam should lend itself to a wider range of cooking techniques and presentation.Pots ‘n Pans is a dynamic partnership between Know One Teach One (KOTO) and its training program graduates along with its international partner; Small Giants. KOTO is a not-for-profit organisation in Vietnam that is changing the lives of street and disadvantaged youth through vocational training. Small Giants is a boutique Australian impact investment company that is dedicated to businesses that are changing the world.

The service and food at Pots 'n Pans is a credit to an amazing Aussie who with much help has managed to take kids from the streets, train them and offer one of the best eating experiences in Hanoi, a total credit to everyone. The food is beautifully presented, fresh, lots of variety, the service is top notch. The interior is quite modern and can be slightly noisy if it is a packed house, make sure you book ahead as this restaurant is very popular, enjoy, we certainly did.

Every mouthful is a delight. Vietnamese fresh ingredients and style, but with modern twists, Beware, it is not cheap by Hanoi standards, but you will pay an average price by most Western standards. The best meal I had in Hanoi by far, and I tried some of the other "famous" spots.

The interior design of this restaurant is lovely and very sophisticated. The servers do their very best to offer top notch, attentive care to diners. The only real problem is the wine list: it does not list the YEAR of each wine advertised so we were dismayed to be served a Sauvignon Blanc from 2009 (in 2014) that tasted well past its prime. We sent it back and asked for anything within the last 2 years and the staff were not able to accomodate us. We finally settled on a white wine from 2011. It was not great and it was not cheap. For a restaurant that is trying so hard to create a sophisticated dining experience, they really need to get the wines up to speed or not offer white wines at all. If it is too hard to import wines or the duties are too onerous then they should focus on cocktails or beers or something else to compliment the food.

I'm staying in Hanoi for a month, and I've already eaten at Pots 'n Pans three times. Among the wide diversity of delicious culinary options in Hanoi, Pots 'n Pans delivers a first class dining experience full of inventive takes on Vietnamese and European classics. If Michelin sent restaurant reviewers to Vietnam, I have no doubt that this restaurant would be one of the first to make their list.

Pots 'n Pans was founded and managed by graduates of KOTO, the award-winning hospitality training social enterprise for underprivileged local youth, and it maintains strong ties with KOTO as a pipeline for its all-star graduates to expand their culinary and hospitality skills at the elite level. This really shows in the diner experience: the restaurant is designed with modern, minimalist, Southeast Asian inspired touches; the staff is friendly and professional from the moment you walk in the door; and the food presentation and flavor are first-rate.

Among the highlights I enjoyed, the twice-cooked pork belly appetizer and slow-cooked lamb shoulder with lotus seed and local spices really stood out, both for their flavor and beautiful presentation. The restaurant also has occasional degustation and guest chef nights - the Mexican one I had the privilege to attend featured an excellent flight of latin cocktails, mole poblano, tres leches, etc - delicious flavors I've really been missing during my travels. While a meal at Pots 'n Pans is a modest splurge by local standards (~€30 for 3 courses and drinks), a meal like this in most countries would set you back 3-4X the price. The proceeds are largely reinvested to continue the ongoing social mission of the restaurant and the larger KOTO family.

I attended a KOTO fundraiser event at Pots 'n' Pans on Saturday 12th July. My only regret is that I hadn't been there before. The décor is wonderful and equal to any New York, London or Sydney restaurant. It is often difficult for a restaurant when catering for a large function. However, the staff at Pots 'n' Pans somehow managed to serve up a degustation menu that tasted sensational with every dish also presenting like a piece of art. All courses had a delicious taste, the sauces and condiments complimenting the main ingredient. The Warehouse (wine supplier) had matched the wines to each course which made the tastes even better. Quite an amazing restaurant and certainly a must do if visiting Hanoi. It will now will be a regular venue for us to take overseas visitors. Congratulations to Ms Thao and Ms Nga and their great team.
