Bia hoi is fresh brewed beer tapped from barrels. A big glass costs 2000-5000 VND (less than 25 cents) so it is no surprise that Bia hoi is popular throughout Vietnam. It is mostly served at street bars where customers sit on small plastic chairs on the sidewalk. A popular place for Bai hoi in Hanoi is "Bia Hoi Corner" at the intersection of Ta Hien and Luong Ngoc Quyen in the Old Quarter. Here travellers rub shoulders with locals while watching the chaotic traffic of scooters, cyclos, street vendors and disorientated tourists wizz by.

Address: at corner between Ta Hien street and Luong Ngoc Quyen street.

Bia Hoi is not the place to go to if you're looking for a comfortable chair, inside voices or privacy. Sit out on the street on tiny plastic stools right next to the locals, pay 15 cents for a classic taste of the light beer at Bia Hoi, chat to the staff and become part of the streetscape. Honestly, this is an easy way to feel immersed in the street culture of Hanoi without much effort or straying too far from what you know. You'll never know if you never try!

These beers differ from the usual ones and are freshly brewed daily (according to my guide). Definitely must try! Food is great here too!

Sit on small plastic chairs drinking a bia hoi is one of the must-do experiences in Hanoi. In the heart of the old town, this crossroads offers the greatest choice of places that serve beer quieted
and the beer is not a regular beer has an antique flavor that sounds different on the palate. A unique taste, that doesn't find satisfaction if you don't at least an encore...
It's also a place for meeting many local people... Gathering place....
Every night we went out for a stop there for drinking bia hoi, it was a must....

The place is nice enough, and the beer is fairly cheap at 10000 dong, but the food is so overpriced. I had chicken and rice and spring rolls and it cost 310000 dong (£10).
