“All that and so much more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2013

So, I'm generally very wary of 99% 5-star review places, and was thinking the same thing about this one, but I threw caution to the wind and went for it. Man, that it was the best decision of my Hanoi trip would be an understatement!

AMAZING place, staff, food, rooms, location - I mean, one can just keep on going.

Every day of my 4 night stay I'd walk into the hotel, and I would feel like I was the only person staying at the hotel - that's the level of service I got every time.

Every member of the staff deserves an absolute A+ for their commitment to service with a smile. Nothing was too much to ask. Need a sim card with data? Sure, have a seat and within 15minutes they'll have a new one purchased, you need a shower after your early morning arrival from the train station, and you don't have a room booked for that day? Sure, no problem - you're given a room for a bit to shower and freshen up, and a free breakfast to boot! Need a motorcycle to take you around town? Sure, they'll negotiate the price and get you going. Really, I cannot say enough about the entire team - they truly were incredible.

The rooms are well appointed, perhaps a bit dark even with all the lights turned on, but still very comfortable. The TV had plenty of English channels which was great. The bathroom was great, as well. Floor to ceiling marble tiling, very chic and modern looking and all the amenities provided. (Being a Muslim, the inclusion of the water shower next to the toilet was great!)

The location - again, can't be beat. You walk out onto Ta Hien street which is probably one of the most happening streets in the Old Quarter. There's tons of places to eat, shop, walk around, and truly experience the Old Quarter. You're about a 10minute walk to Hoan Kiem lake, a 5-minute walk to the fun Night Market on the weekends, and a general 15-min walk to every other place within the Old Quarter. Places like the Hanoi Hilton, Ho Chi Minh mausoleum etc are also a very enjoyable 20mins away on foot.

Breakfast is a pleasure, not just because of the food, but again, because of the staff. They have a preset option of 6 things that you order as your "main course," and then you have the open buffet for everything else. I tried the pancakes and the french toast from the main menu and both were well presented and delicious. The homemade jams, and yogurt were very tasty and the selection was varied to suit almost every taste.

They give you a map that the hotel developed and it was a god sent. It was on me at all times and really helped my walking expeditions around the city.

I cannot recommend a hotel more!

Although everyone at the hotel is great - I'd like to give shout outs to Long, Huyen, Sam, and Tam for making this an unforgettable experience for me.

Room Tip: Ask to get rooms close to the wireless routers - otherwise the WiFi was a bit hard to catch.

This is a delightful hotel to experience the sights, sounds and experiences of the old quarter at a very reasonable price.

We upgraded to a suite and were delighted with our decision. Large, comfortable well appointed room with vaulted ceiling. Suites have in room personal laptop with free internet connection. Room was surprisingly quiet given we were right in the heart of the old quarter.

Stocked bar with free cold beer and soft drinks, snacks, free laundry service.

The breakfast buffet had everything you would expect. We had such great food and service at the hotel restaurant that we ate there every night!

Staff were remarkable in every aspect! A great place to stay in the Hanoi old quarter.

Room Tip: Book a suite, its well worth the extra's. Higher floors have less noise but we had no reason to...

The staff was great, food was great, location great.
We had a 2nd floor room -FYI, it was noisy below us at 3:45 and 5:30 in the AM for three of the four nights. On the third we asked and the desk moved us to a higher floor, no problem.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the 2nd floor :) if you are a light sleeper.

We stayed at the Essence Hotel for 4 nights, it's an oasis in the Old Quarter. The staff are very helpful, organised our transfers and Halong Bay cruise. The restaurant is excellent, there is a lot of variety at breakfast. The rooms are very clean and spacious. This hotel is definitely value for money.

It was so lovely to be greeted by a friendly warm team of staff at the reception and have an efficient check in after our exhausted trip. We booked a suite which was a good large size. The bathroom was immaculate and looked as if it had been recently renovated with floor to ceiling tiling.

The hotel is perfectly situated in the hub of all the action, on a busy, bustling street. We literally walked straight out into the buzz and excitement of city life, with the shops, traders, and a constant stream of every type of vehicle you could imagine.

It was so nice to see genuinely happy and helpful staff who accommodated our every whims, and provided useful information and suggestions on the area.

The breakfast was a real treat with a wide range of choices. We chose to dine every night in the Essence Restaurant which caters for both Vietnamese and Western food. We opted for the authentic Vietnamese option every time and were never disappointed. It was delicious and beautifully presented.

Our stay was completely faultless with customer services seemingly at the top of the agenda. We would like to say a personal big thank you to all the staff that made our first visit to Vietnam a truly memorable one.

Room Tip: We stayed in suite 305 and 405 on different floor levels. Both rooms were quiet and comfortable.

The location in the old quarter was perfect, the staff from the front door to reception to the restaurant were the best we have come across from our travels thru Nth America and Australia. The breakfast was superb and set us up for a day of sightseeing, only regret is that I didn't book there sister hotel in Hoi An.
