“Sets the bar high!”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

The Essence was my first stop on my trip to Vietnam and Cambodia and it was my absolute favorite hotel! The front desk staff is exceptional, as is the housekeeping and cafe staff. After 24 hours of travel I was warmly greeted and shown to my room for a very restful night's sleep. During the four nights I stayed in the Essence my sleep was absolutely undisturbed by noise or temperature. The hotel provided a map which proved helpful for navigating the Old Quarter and beyond. Staff were also eager to point out worthwhile sites in Hanoi and what they considered to be their favorites.
My only tiny complaint: I spent two nights at the Essence before leaving for one night in Halong Bay with the intention to return for two more nights. The hotel required I pay for all four nights upon checking out to leave for Halong Bay. In hindsight this wasn't a big deal, but I didn't like the "policy".
I would love to return to this clean, comfortable, kind oasis in busy Hanoi!

This hotel is amazing, the service was a it's top.
the location is excellent (though the hotel is right in the middle of Hanoi's chaos).

The rooms are a little small, but they are well equipped. They even have an in-room Internet connected laptop for you to use.

The concierge was really helpful, as he even recommended us a great local Pho place right across the corner.

Wow, this really is an oasis in the middle of what seems such chaos. We were gobsmacked by the traffic and people in Hanoi so were overwhelmed when we checked in to the Junior Suite at the Essence Hotel. Paradise!. The rooms were so elegant and perfectly furnished. The food was sensational. The central location was amazing. The staff were unbelievable. They could not do enough for you. They were so attentive, professional and just extremely friendly. We would recommend this hotel to anyone as it made a fantastic and memorable start to our holiday.
We stayed at the Essence for 3 nights as we also did alternate trips to Sapa and Halong Bay. We were able to store our belongings as well as change our check in and check out times with ease. Loved it x

This hotel is for those who wish to be right in the middle of the old quarter of Hanoi. It is perfectly placed for shopping and for experiencing street food. We found it comfortable although the rooms were small, they did have everything we needed. The food in the Essence Cafe was excellent and very well priced and the staff are incredibly helpful. My husband was suffering with a very bad head cold when we arrived and the lady on reception took him to the local chemist and translated for him so he could get various pills and potions! It is great to be able to wander around the old quarter at night, having food and beer in lots of different places but never be more than a 10 minute walk away from the Essence. Would stay again although I must say that I did miss not having a pool in the heat!

spectacularly nice hotel right in the old town of Hanoi. Wonderful and attentive staff who do everything they can to please. You are right in the middle of everything at the Essence hotel. Clean, tidy, excellent restaurant.

Stayed one night here in a junior suite before heading off on the Hanoi Backpackers Hostel castaway island trip. Pre-booked in advance after researching on Tripadvisor and this place stuck out like a sore thumb. Ticked all the boxes. Excellent value for money against other hotels of the same calibre. Found slap bang in the middle of Hanoi's Old Quarter its a welcoming bit of piece and quiet after trekking around seeing the sights. Would recommend to anybody looking for great service and a good sleep (bed was tremendous). The breakfast buffet was superb with a wide variety of options for all tastes.....and stomachs. Thanks for the complimentary bottle of vino in the room :)

We spent one night on this hotel, after our Cruise of two nights on Halong Bay, and before we left Vietnam.
This can be considered a budget hotel, given its category, but it has a lot of features that made our stay memorable.
On our arrival, the receptionists and the wellcome staff were extremely kind, prestative and helpful. They offered us fresh and perfumed towels, juicy cocktails and large smiles. They even offered a cocktail to our guide. He even commented with us that it was the first time that he was seeing that kind of kindness in an hotel, for a guide.

Our room was very spacious, with good furniture and a comfortable bed. There was even a laptop with free wi-fi on the room, so the guest could use it for free.
The bathroom was also wide and with good amenities. All the space was very clean and pleasant. As we were on Honeymoon, they surprised us with a Cake and a Flower Bed Decoration. So nice!
The only disadvantage of the room was the view, since the hotel's building is faced with other constructions, and from the room we only could see old houses/buildings in poor conditions.
But, this was only a detail and didn't bother us.
Sleep quality was very good.

The breakfast was another thing that surprised us on the positive side. It had a great variety of products, everything was fresh and tasty, and they have things that you often find in 4 ou 5 stars hotels! The breakfast staff was always attentive and cheerful.

On the check-out, the staff was, again, very nice. They called a car to get us to the airport and made us feel that, next time we return to Hanoi, we'll stay at this lovely hotel!
Everything was absolutly perfect!
