“Best Hotel on our Entire Trip”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Other reviews have covered many of the reasons why this hotel is so special, and I'll add my complete agreement to their positive accolades. My daughter and I were in Southeast Asia for a month and stayed in several lovely hotels, but this was tops. Great location, lovely comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast with a wide variety of choices, fabulous dinner in their restaurant, and the staff was top-notch. Chatting with the charming waitresses during our meals and hearing their stories gave us some special insights into the real people of Hanoi.

Room Tip: Higher floors facing away from the street will be quieter. There is an elevator.

Excellent experience, could not fault a thing. Although minor problems with the room we booked, staff made exceptional effort to compensate and keep both parties involved happy. Located within walking distance of all main attractions in the old quarter, would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for 5 star service at reasonable rates. My partner and I loved it.

I stayed here for 2 nights in February and while Hanoi was pretty much a ghost town for Tet, the staff here were incredible.
They had a printout of all the tourist attractions (museums, etc) and what days/hours they were open during Tet. They also arranged a trip to Ha Long Bay for me and my girlfriend (They recommended some of the more expensive options, but we think it was worth it...that's for another review though) and let us leave our luggage there, so that we could travel light on the boat. When we got back, they offered us a room for an hour to have a shower but we didn't need it. I'm not sure, but I got the feeling that the offer of a shower may have been complimentary. All the staff there are incredibly knowledgeable, amiable and willing, without being pushy in any kind of way. Whoever hired and/or trained these staff, bravo, I tip my hat to you. We also ate at the restaurant one evening and the food was great, but I much prefer the street food on offer :)
If I am ever back in Hanoi, I know where I will be staying. If you want to stay in the old quarter and this hotel is in your price range, don't hesitate. Stay here. You won't regret it.

Having stayed in three hotels in Hanoi in two years about the same price this was the best. It's exceptional. Perhaps the biggest strong point is the staff. They are all just adorable, especially the kids in the restaurant. They are so super keen and eager to help and please. Nothing is too much trouble. They are all keen to talk to the visitors staying at the hotel. We met a young fellow called Hang (not sure if that's how you spell it) and he was delightful, as was Hua, a young lass with an incredible smile and keenness to help. The manager zhung, is also a switched on guy, with great English and very charming. He knows how to run a great hotel, absolutely no doubt. This was a six star experience and will be my first choice of hotels around this price. They are ranked number one and while he's there with the same staff it will stay number one. It's a relatively small hotel and it a great location in the old quarter, very buzy and a lot of fun just a short walk from some very cool bars and restaurants. I love hanoi and will probably go back some day.

Room Tip: If you like dancing go to thoms bar and the fat cat bar is pretty cool too.

We booked a junior suite and requested a quiet room. However we were allocated room 305 and we could hear talking in the street in addition to traffic noise. We asked if we could be moved to a higher floor and the following day we moved to a room on the 6th floor and this was much better. This was the only negative aspect of our stay. We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The modern room was exceptionally clean and we appreciated the free internet with the provision of a laptop. The breakfast was very good (excellent banana pancakes to order). We also enjoyed a very nice meal in the restaurant in the evening.

The Essence and its staff is number 1 plus! You can't go wrong with this hotel if you want to be in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Service is their priority and each and every employee went out of their way to make our visit special. When the frame of my sunglasses cracked the night before our Ha Long Bay trip and I asked for tape to fix it, they sent someone out to get glue and brought the repaired glasses to my room. To date they are still fine. That is unusual service. We spent three nights and returned for a fourth after an overnight on Ha Long Bay. The hotel stored our suitcases while we were gone. Other reviewers have covered everything quite well. I would also suggest that you underline the name and address of this hotel on their card, since the sister hotels are also listed and the print is hard to read, especially in the evening light. In addition to the printed map, the staff was good about drawing a map for us to use to walk places which we like to do. The lake, water puppets, and other sights are all close and easy to find with good directions. I loved Vietnam. The Essence Hotel and its staff were the beginning of a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: Stayed in two different ones. Both were good, but the one two floors higher, but on the same side h...

This boutique hotel is perfectly located, just a few minutes’ walk from the Hoan Kiem Lake. The room was spacious and comfortable and the buffet breakfast was varied and delicious. There is also a real attention to detail as shown by the small touches like the flowers on the bed and the hand-made garnishes on the breakfast dishes.
If we had to pick one thing that really sets this hotel apart it is service. The staff was uniformly excellent and did everything to make us feel welcome from the moment they greeted us on our arrival (and sat with us to explain the hotel and about Hanoi) until, regretfully, we had to check out.
We will definitely stay there again when we are next in Hanoi.

Room Tip: The Junior Suites are spacious, include a free mini-bar and laundry and are well worth the extra.
