Owner description: This house in the Old Quarter was restored in 1999, as an example of an ancient Hanoian home. It represents the architecture of the Old Quarter, and is decorated to reflect ancient houses of Hanoi.

You could imagine to some extent how the people would have lived in the past. Well worth the fee you pay. The building, the furniture and other housold articles are well maintained in the ancient house. One can also buy beautiful drawings on rise paper. It is an interesting place to visit in my opinion. It is in one of the streets in the Old Quarter. A short walking distance from any hotel in that area.

We paid money to get in here only to be sold souvenirs the whole way through. yes it is interesting to see how they lived. But it is definitely a souvenir shop. (You can see the same old house interior in number 69 restaurant, 69 Ma May Street) I wasn't impressed. It would have been better to see how they lived rather than see them painting and then trying to sell you the paintings. The stair to get upstairs are particularly steep, which was my highlight, but harder for the less mobile to get up.

For a fee of USD1, you get to see the architectural building nicely restored and get a few photos. Otherwise, its more of a souvenir shop than an ancient house. You will miss nothing if you don't go.

Does not break the bank, more a shop for tourist items but non the less it is quaint and pretty for a couple of photos.

This house located at 87 Ma May Street in the old quarter is an effort to preserve some of the original buildings near the waterfront and gives you a good glimpse of how a merchant may have lived and worked.

The restoration work was done under the auspices of local .org's and was recognized as a Vietnamese National Heritage site in 2004.

Very worthwhile to visit as you walks the streets of the old quarter.
