I loved the Hanoi Social Club! My friend and I ate here at least 3 times while were were in Hanoi for a week, for dinner, breakfast and lunch, we liked it that much. The cafe has a great atmosphere, nice music, really good food and is an easy place to spend a few hours.
I loved the menu - a creative menu, loads of vegetarian food, and lots of gluten free options, including gluten free pasta as well as breakfast items, and a super-decadent gluten free chocolate cake - yum!
Close to the old quarter, it was walking distance from where we were staying, although we mostly took taxis here. There are three levels, and we loved sitting upstairs by the window looking out over the street.
The staff are lovely, and super helpful. One small draw back of sitting upstairs is that it can take a while for staff to come upstairs to take your order, but really it's not that hard to pop downstairs if you are waiting a while.
