Owner description: The Long Bien bridge across the Red River connects Hanoi with the main port of Haiphong. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the bridge sustained significant damage during the Vietnam War. Only half of the bridge retains its original shape, but a rebuilding project supported by the French government is currently in progress to restore the bridge to its original appearance.

“Worth a walk.”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Really enjoyed seeing life a bit out of the city. The bridge has 2 lanes of traffic going either way, with the odd bike going against the traffic (rather them...), and the train track running through the middle. The Red River under the bridge gives you an idea of rural life with small farms beside the river and people living on boats under the bridge. 10 minute walk from the Old Quarter, but so different.

Walking over to the tiny island at middle of Mekong River through the bridge. Get to see different type of people riding along the bridge. Spectacular feel when the train pass by......

“Interesting and a little scary”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

Designed by French Architect Gustave Eiffel Long Bien Bridge was completed in 1902, makes the Long Bien Bridge more than 100 years old. It is beautiful to watch at a distance, but crossing the bridge is also interesting and a little scary.
When you start your 'journey' crossing the bridge you realise that the 111 years hasn't passed unnoticed. Renovation would be a smart investment.

“overrated spot”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

long bien bridge is an overrated spot on internet and on travel books. the air pollution on this area was horrible. taxi drivers were charging too much for the ride. and the bridge itself, will collapse ( i think) soon because they don't maintain it.

“Don't go out of your way for this one”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

This city was just a stop over on our way to Ha Long bay. The people were very nice and the old quarter was nice to explore. This bridge isn't really worth seeing unless you happen to be walking by it on your way to somewhere else.
