Owner description: The Long Bien bridge across the Red River connects Hanoi with the main port of Haiphong. Designed by Gustave Eiffel, the bridge sustained significant damage during the Vietnam War. Only half of the bridge retains its original shape, but a rebuilding project supported by the French government is currently in progress to restore the bridge to its original appearance.

“It's a bridge......”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Although this is listed as an attraction it really is just a bridge. We took some nice photos from the bridge and of the bridge but it isn't an attraction you need to plan a lot of time for. If you are in the city for a meal or in transit to somewhere else just allow an extra 20 - 30 min.

“A Bridge Not Too Far”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

You can walk this one if you can find the access which happens to be up by the train station on the Western end of the bridge. Great walk across the bridge and some very nice views of both city and farmland along the Red River.

Interesting bridge used by cyclists to cross the Red River. Great way to view the city but very busy with cyclists!

“Cool rusty bridge”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Historic bridge that spans the Red River, built in 1905 by Eiffel, the same engineer who made the Eiffel Tower, connects two halves of the city. Lovers take to the bridge to have their photo taken.
