Description: A small corner in old Hanoi close to Hoan Kiem lake filled with the green of trees and leaves. A simple space with skilfully recycled decorations. Come to Canopée to relax with fine coffee and cool cocktail and mocktail specially for summer. Come to share experience on drinks which has been brought with the founders' passion and enthusiasm after each long trip...

After spotting this place on trip advisor we popped in for a snack and drink. Up lots of stairs but a really lovely looking spot. It was empty so we chose one seat but mOved to another after spotting some mites/insects on the couch and table. We settled in and ordered then noticed a rodent scurrying around. I believe a fat mouse but some believed him big enough to be a rat (I was drinking coffee but there were beer and cocktail orders amongst my companions!). He was christened Gerry and we did stay for our food - which was ok. The cocktails looked nice. A memorable experience but maybe not for the right reasons. Oh, and don't stay too long - the toilets are all the way back down the very steep stairs!!!!!

Slow service. One meal finished another comes. Meals not very nice. Poor. Waiters smoking behind the bar counters, didn't pay much attention to their customers. Don't bother.

We stumbled upon Canopee quite randomly and decided to take a chance. Venturing up the narrow staircase, we entered a charming, timeless setting filled with locals and expats alike. It was an acoustic open-mic night, and both the musicians and singers were SO talented. Drinks were very reasonable and always on hand. Go on Fridays if you want the live music!

I read some good reviews and wanted to try this place. The design is excellent; a very comfortable and hip setting. The main floor and top floor are very cool, each with their own unique touch. I was a bit early and did not feel like eating. Instead, I ordered a beer which was served cold and quick. The menu is quite limited in choice, but still contains something to make most people happy (quesadilla, burger, pasta, salads, finger foods, etc.). The only drawback I saw was that there were some problems communicating with the staff. This is fine if you are pointing to the menu, but could be a problem if you have a question or special request. Still, it seemed very friendly and I would definitely go back. Oh, and it is down a small alley, but that only adds to the character.

Down a dark alley and up a flight of stairs to the coolest bar we found on our two week trip to Vietnam. The main room feels a bit like a tree house when the balcony is open (as in, not raining). Bonus points for not playing generic smooth jazz like every other bar in Hanoi. This place is hip in the way that westerners take for granted. It's seemingly unaware of just how cool it is and not at all pretentious. An easy place to melt away the day.
