Description: No trip to Hanoi would be completed without a visit to Exchange Cafe.... Hide away in a quite lane opposite Hanoi Opera House, Exchange offers a cosy atmosphere and is ideal for business meetings, breakfast appointments, lunch on the go or drinks after work. A perfect rooftop terrace for a cocktail lingering after the show at the Opera House.

I'm fussy. I like good food, good wine, nice environs and cheap. Not often you find this combination. But the exchange cafe is a hidden gem. It's next to the stock exchange, down a side alley that doesn't look much. When you find it, you won't realise this little places actually has 4 or maybe 5 levels. There's always another stairwell. If you get to the top, you're on the rooftop, with fairy lights and a great view. But the inside levels are great too. A great meal is the chicken breast with plum and almond stuffing. A hollandaise sauce with mustard and tarragon, and mashed potato and steamed vegetables. Superb food for all of 135,000 vnd. The white wine was an excellent crisp chardonnay, which came with a complimentary bowl of olives and another of crisps. All of this just across the road from the opera house, but hardly a soul in the place. The only reason can be that it's too hidden away. But as a seasoned resident of vietnam, all i can say is if you want some excellent food, either western or vietnamese, this is worth looking for.

Dear customers,

From this month we have a major changed in our business. It still keep the garden in the rooftop and more tree around for people who love environment but we put more street food in our list just make them hygiene for you to try them safe. Having beer and few food sticks is amazing.

Beside we also started our hostel with 12 beds in total. You can stay at our hostel and enjoy the rest of the house, it is quiet for rest so if you like party you can walk to old quarter (walking distant) and come back enjoy the night rest. The restaurant side with many space for hanging out is at your service. You can enjoy it whenever you want.

Love from M-Spot

The roof top garden is nice, you can order some drinks and enjoy the breeze at the night. Best time to go there is at night, because the sun in June is too much. We had some snakes and beers there. I did not try main course there. Still recommend as a nice place to have beer and hang out.

This was a spot I went to based on trip advisor reviews. Whilst we sat on the rooftop which was lovely - the food was not up to par. The menu was very limited. I had lung fish which was un edible. The other dishes we ordered were not much better. Perhaps pop in for a beer and snack but I wouldn't recommend staying for dinner.
However, one of my companions was impressed they had southern comfort available as this was not often on the drinks menu in Hanoi.

This café, on several levels, is very pleasant. It's in a great location, especially if you are going to the Opera House or want a central location to meet people (even though it's in an alley!) The food is not great, but it's okay and it's a reasonable price. Drinks are affordable. There is outdoor seating though the lights from the street can be quite bright, so be careful where you sit. Good service from the staff who keep a watchful eye to see if you need anything more. Service is quick. well worth more visits to this café!

This restaurant is tucked away behind the exchange building. It is a charming four storeyed restaurant with nicely done interiors. Its walls are adorned with old B&W photos of Hanoi, which gave it a nice touch. Service was exceptional. The food was a fusion of Vietnamese and Western - food was above average.
