I had reserved the triple room with a balcony and window a couple months in advance only to learn it was "unavailable" when we arrived. They were very friendly and nice and they gave us a double room and single room. Both didn't have windows and both were not that nice. The beds at Koto are very firm. I know Asia has firm beds but out of Vietnam, HK, Singapore, Thailand, and Bali Koto was the worst.

Another story is that the cleaning staff took my towel. I don't know if they mistook it for one of the hotels or not but I was not very pleased to find my personal towel missing.

The only reason I didn't give it a 1 out of 5 was because the staff there were very friendly and nice. Albeit if they weren't nice in the first place we would have left knowing our room wasn't reserved as requested.

Nice room, bathroom very basic but the staff is helpful, they were so helpful helping us to change plane tickets, ordering taxis, booking trips, serving us tea and coffee. Big plus: they let us have a shower on the way back from Cat Ba Island even though we had checked out. Free internet, breakfast and airport pick up.

Koto hotel was in many ways a good hotel on the center of old town in Hanoi. I have given it such a high rating however, because although it was not many special things. It was clean, the staff were friendly and the location was good for walking everywhere. Would recommend staying here, although don't buy the food at night time in Camchii street which was so-called as a night food market in Hanoi if you didn’t have a price or menu there, I 'm sure there are many other food vendors the same for a cheaper prices nearby the Hoan Kiem lake.

They offered us they would pick us up from the Nobai airport to hotel for its price was USD16.00 per car and then charged us a half mentioned-above price at the end of our stay. However, they were really friendly and helpful staff and it was great value for money, staff provided the good advice on tours and things to visit around Hanoi with perfect English ability. The room was very decent size and comfortable, especially compared to other places I have stayed with the same price range. definately recommend it to anyone looking for budget accommodation in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.

While I can't quite share the enthusiasm of the previous reviewer I do think Koto Hostel is probably one of the best hotels in this price range in Hanoi (though it doesn't look quite as nice as the photographs on this website). The location on Hang Bong in the Old Quarter is excellent. It's a very busy and noisy area but the hotel is set away from the street down an alley so you can hardly hear the traffic. The staff don't speak English terribly well but they are extremely friendly, always saying hello and offering you glasses of water. Having said that I don't think they were completely honest with me when they said it would be too difficult to get to Halong Bay without taking a tour because the bus station was 'very far' (about 10 minutes) and 'very expensive' (less than 2 pounds) by taxi, and because all the buses would be 'very crowded' at this time of year due to some kind of public holiday. (In reality they were almost empty and cost only US$10). Also it is not true that all their rooms have windows and balconies, or that they come with bathtubs, IDD telephones, welcome drinks, fruit baskets, hairdryers, safes, and tea/coffee making facilities, etc, as they claim on their website. I also don't agree with other reviewers about the free breakfasts at the Bodega Hotel over the road - I thought it could have been much better. The hotel's website says it 'changes daily' but again this is not true. It was always the same: toast, stale dry fried rice, noodles and bits of fried egg, a few slices of lunch meat, and cucumber salad - most of which was all gone by 8am or so.

Laundry service is also a bit expensive by Vietnamese standards at US$2.50 per kg. We were told that ironing was included but our clothes came back creased with several items missing.

Room Tip: Make sure you get the room you've asked for!

We were welcomed to the hostel with a drink and then shown to our room.It was a decent and clearn room and I met a lot of tourists in that hotel and all of them said they liked hostel. The staff were briliant and the breakfasts really good. There were bikes available for renting with price cheaper than agencies on the treets which was a really good service. It was a comfortable hotel just inside the old quarter. It was also very reasonable for what you got.

We arrived in Hanoi and went to the Bodega Hotel because it was well rated in Trip Advisor. They were full and sent us over the road to their sister hotel, Koto Hotel. It costs $19 per night for a double room including breakfast at both hotels. The rooms here are very clean and cleaned daily. The staff are super friendly. You can't sit down at the free internet without them getting you a glass of water. Breakfast is taken over the road at Bodega Hotel. The breakfast is acceptable but nothing special. The the hotel is quiet and the rooms are really good for the money (a lot better than what we had at our previous hotel in Hanoi). The hotel organises tours and cars to the airport for very reasonable rates. What was also amazing, was that when we arrived, it was 5am. We were given a room and breakfast that morning and not charged for it. We were only charged for the three full nights that we stayed. The hotel is five minutes walk from the train station and less than 10 minutes walk from the centre of the old town (just far enough out to escape the hassle).
You can't go wrong staying here.

Room Tip: No lift so take low room if lazy.
