Rising Dragon Palace Hotel
Ranked #55 of 651 Hanoi B&B and Inns

First thing to know - there are several Rising Dragons in Hanoi so make sure you know which one you're going to - and talking about. They are all located in the Old Quarter which is a fascinating place to stay as long as the hotel works.

We spent one night in the RD at 61 Hang Be north east of Hoan Kiem Lake. The room was too small, the bathroom poor. I cannot recommend this place. We spent the next 3 days in the country (Mai Chau Nature Place - interesting if you have time!) and when we returned we went ...

Rising Dragon 2 at 12-14 Nguyen Quang Bich St, a little alley west of The Lake off Phung Hung. Our first night here was rough because the room on third floor was way too hot and small.

We asked for a better room and finally got a GREAT room we liked - Room 201. As best I could understand, the rooms on upper floors did not have their own thermostats and the heat was on - but Rm 201 had its own thermostat so we were able to control the airconditioning in the room. The bath and shower were A+. The beds were spacious and A+. Breakfast downstairs was quite good despite the small room. WiFi was 100% reliable. The staff was great help and very friendly.

The downside was the building next door was under construction and at 7:30AM you were woken up by drilling - and forget about midday nap which I never do. Construction looks like it could take several months thru late 2012.

Make sure you bring the hotel map with you and get your bearings (look for the modern Gallerie down the street as a landmark) when wondering thru the Old Quarter - the little street can be difficult to find.

I would definitely stay here again but make sure you check the room first. For the money it is a good value. By the way, a block north on Phung Hung is a fun open restaurant where they serve the 'one-day' beer (USD 0.40 per glass)- a gathering place for locals and euro-tourists

Room Tip: Room with own thermostat

The Rising Dragon Palace has THE best service I've ever experienced in any hotel, even outclassing the most expensive of hotel chains! My friend and I were treated like royalty, being greeted with a smile by hotel staff without fail every single time (except for housekeeping but that didn't really bother us). We enjoyed one-way free transfer to the hotel from the airport, and when we arrived we were greeted by hotel staff Cuong and Anne. Cuong is the friendliest customer service manager you'll meet and he took care of us during our 5-day stay in Hanoi. Anne is just as super friendly and helpful and she walked us through the various tours available to book through the hotel and then walked us up to our room and gave us a brief orientation of the amenities in the room to ensure we had a comfortable stay. Another front desk staff by the name of Sinh was also very helpful in getting us taxis when we needed, booking for us massage appointments at the last minute and providing street directions. The maps available at the front desk are very useful, with clear markings of good restaurants, shopping belts and places of interest. Hotel staff would happily explain to you how to get from Point A to Point B and it also helps that they speak very good English in a country that hardly speaks the language.

The daily breakfast, which is included in the price of the room, is excellent! The spread is simple yet tantalising, with fresh and tasty baguette, pastries and a myriad of tropical fruits - including pineapple, watermelon, passionfruit and pomelo - waiting to be feasted on by hungry guests. There is a separate ala carte breakfast menu and you can place orders for beef or chicken pho, french toast, eggs, pancake, and tuna sandwich which are freshly prepared. No additional charges as they are included as part of the brekkie spread! The manager who attended to us everyday (pity I didn't get his name) provided impeccable service and the team of waiters were attentive, efficient, and warm. Once you've emptied your plate, expect a friendly waiter or waitress to attend to you within 30 seconds to clear your plate and ask if you needed anything else.

On our final day, Cuong - who welcomed us on the first day - walked us to the hotel car, thanked us for staying with them and and made sure we sat comfortably in the car before waving goodbye. Such personalised service is something I've not seen anywhere in a mid-range hotel and even at big chains I've stayed at such as IHG and Hilton.

Rising Dragon Palace in a nutshell: impeccable service all-around (probably the best in Vietnam!), comfortable bed and pillows, solid water pressure in the shower, great selection of cable channels, lovely welcome fruit and drink, very good hotel map and with useful markings (with the exception of an outdated address for Hoa Sua Training Restaurant), fabulous breakfast selection, and of course a great location (in a quiet street within the noisy Old Quarter). Despite the lack of exercise facilities etc., I would still give it 6 stars for the unforgettable experience! Thank you Cuong, Anne, Sinh and team!!!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the building tend to take in smell from the hotel's kitchen. The room we bo...

We were very impressed with the services of this hotel that we decided to stay here for the whole duration of 6 days in Hanoi even though it was a small boutique hotel.. . The location is located right in the centre of Hanoi but tucked away in a side lane away from the crazy traffic noise from the main road. Everything is within walking distance for your shopping, tourists spots and food.
We booked directly with Mr Hieu, Manager, via email. who was very helpful from booking the room, picking us up from the airport, to organizing our trip to Halong Bay and even upgraded us when we had a small problem with the connecting room. Everything was taken care of very well, that we just relax and enjoy our holidays with no worries. The staff were very courteous and all out to make our stay stress free. I must commend that Mr Hieu and his hotel staffs are better than some of the top 5 stars hotels we have stayed before.
The rooms are very clean, bed are comfortable, and the shower and toilet can be quite amusing with glass doors, but no worries they have blinds to do the necessary. We kind of like the breakfast cos they will only cook your main dishes when you order instead of the usual buffet set-up. The restaurant is abit small though.
Thanks Mr Hieu, and your staff too, for making our stay very comfortable. We will highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for value with a great service.

Room Tip: Try the suites. They are bigger and has a Balcony!!.

Excellent 5 star staff and service- friendly, sincere and very helpful.

We had a deluxe city view - which I probably would not recommend as it was more a view of the noisy alley way. There was also construction going on either within the hotel or at the side not sure, so you were up by 7am whether you wanted to be or not. The room was nice, clean and modern, yet smaller than what the pictures represent. The set up of the shower/ toilet - all though very nice is not particulary ideal for a couple who may not know each other that well :) Glass partitions with curtains do not offer a great deal of privacy. The glass door on our balcony overlooking the alley did not lock either. I cannot say I was fond of the restaurant in the basement, it was cold - in temperature (we went in Feb) and atmosphere, with low ceilings, and not alot of room I felt like I was constantly bumping into people, and there are about 3+ waiters taking orders - which felt a bit much (but they are very geared towards excellent service). The food is then deliver by a "blind waiter" (elevator) from the kitchen and then brought to you - the food was not great. Saying all that my husband had no problems with the restaurant. At the end of the day this is a very good 3 star hotel and very affordable. Great if you are travelling further and need to leave your stuff there for a night (we went overnight to halong bay) and then return. It is central to everything: Shops and some really great restaurants so you are not limited to where you choose to eat. This hotels key strength is its employees in particular its reception / lobby employees - anyone of them would do well in a 5 star establishment - they are delightful and made our trip very good with all their help and useful information - they are genuine, kind and sincere. There have been reviews I have read saying the staff are "over attentive", I did not think this. Vietnam seems to be a country that is more geared to giving a 5 star service no matter where you stay, I think this is great as so many other countries are lacking this - Australia in particular. I would happily recommend this hotel.

The staff are extremely friendly and put a high-value on customer service. On our return from Sapa to the hotel, after the night train, the staff were very attentive to our needs and treated us very well - and we were not yet even staying at their hotel (we were in transit to HaLong Bay and we only stayed with them two days later).

The food was excellent and the rooms were very clean. I would definitely recommend it to others who are travelling. My husband and I were backpacking in Vietnam for three weeks, we are both in our mid-to-late fifties.

The Rising Dragon Palace hotel is a beauty!! Tucked away in a side street of the old Quarter in Ha Noi, the rooms were spacious, bed very comfortable, rooms and hotel very clean breakfast (which was included in our room rate - booked via Agoda) was superb, not a massive selection but there was enough for any hungry traveler and the staff the friendliest I have ever come across in all my years of traveling... You could stay here just for the staff alone.. I can not recommend this place highly enough... Next time I am in Ha Noi we will definitely be staying at the Rising Dragon Palace hotel....

Note: There are a few Rising Dragon hotels in Ha Noi.. Be sure to book the Rising Dragon Palace hotel

The hotel was a gem! Tucked in-between some old buildings, it's modern, stylish and comes with warmth, friendly and helpful staff. Our Deluxe Room was a tad small for 2 pax, but nevertheless, it was very clean, good facilities provided and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. They are quite generous with their daily breakfast and really value-for-money. The staff ensured that we had enough to eat, and you could almost experience "butler" service as there were like 3 to 1 at one point of time! The Customer Sales Manager - Mr Cuong Nguyen, was most accommodating and helpful and went out of his way to ensure that we had a comfortable stay. He made all the arrangements for our Halong Bay trip, without any glitches! :-) All our incessant querries were always answered with a gentle "For sure!" :-)He even arranged for a local guide (his personal friend) for our 2 days city tour of Hanoi, a Mr.Son, a very good English speaking guide and quite knowledgeable. My sister felt sick in the midst of our city tour, and he took my sister back to the hotel and ensured that she was OK, that was a very wonderful gesture. He even told off a taxi who wanted to fleece us with a VND100,000 taxi ride around the Old Quarters to Quan An Ngon Restaurant! We were very touched by his honesty and thanks to Cuong, we discovered Hanoi with peace of mind and had a wonderful time. Overall, the location of this hotel is pretty good, within walking distance to the restaurants, cafes, Old Quarters and shops, and we felt very safe! :-) Our journey back to the airpot was made memorable as Cuong arranged for a complimentary special MPV to compensate us when we were "left stranded" upon our arrival at the airport earlier! On the whole, a very pleasant holiday, with a good hotel and with great staff!
